Best CD The Sony ES changers are good for this - they have a 400 CD capacity and run very well. I play mine into a fairly nice system and enjoy them immensely. -Kirk
Sonus Faber Cremona Vs. Dynaudio Contour S3.4 Lavardin - I drive the Confidence 3's with the Krell FPB-200c. I find it to be an almost ideal match, at least for my room and tastes. The only brightness I encounter is on bright (usually pop / rock) recordings. I haven't heard the 3.4's or any o...
Sonus Faber Cremona Vs. Dynaudio Contour S3.4 Those seem like two really different speakers - I would think that even the most significant preferences you have would make the determination.I'm a long-time Dynaudio owner, tho I haven't owned / heard the 3.4's yet. I owned the Contour 1.1 monit...
What is your best kept secret in mid-fi? Give up the lowest frequencies (<40-50Hz), which allows you to use smaller speakers which in turn can be easier to drive. You'll get better performance above 40-50Hz for a reasonable cost, and your amplification will be cheaper as well.
Speakers to hang on to for LIFE Dynaudio Confidence 3's - even if I venture into bigger or different speakers some day, I imagine that I will keep these and use them somewhere in my house. They are really an incredible, full sound in a relatively small package.
Good DVD Concert? Nine Inch Nails "All That Could Have Been" - absolutely excellent if you like the music. Not quite the production quality of the U2 DVD (which is a personal favorite as well), but the sound is excellent and the sense of being there is very good.
Krell FPB 200, comments? I would echo Nrchy's comments - I own the FPB 200c and it runs very warm to hot, but I believe it runs cooler than previous Krells. It's definitely not bright in my system / room either - it drives a pair of Dynaudio Confidence 3's. My room is not...
Lexicon MC-8 : What's your experience? Good/Bad Hi Robert - Unfortunately, I do not have any experience with the Anthem unit, so I can't offer up any comparison. The Lexicon units do not have a tuner built in. I never listen to the radio, so this isn't an issue for me (in fact, it's a plus, as...
Lexicon MC-8 : What's your experience? Good/Bad I have the MC-12. The MC-8 is built on the same architecture, but scaled down. I don't have hands-on experience with the MC-8.I both listen to music and watch movies a lot through my system. For HT, there is no better than the Lexicon, in my opini...
Do You Remember Your First Music Purchase? I think it was the 45 of American Pie by Don McLean. Played it to death.
Steely Dan - New release / June 10th Just got Everything Must Go - absolutely love it. I wasn't a big fan of 2AN, but this one is a keeper for sure.
What Makes Good Video DVD players are some of the best bang-for-the-buck devices going - nobody really reviews them anymore because there's so little to differentiate their video performance. They're all basically excellent. Sony's latest ES model, today or tomorrow, w...
Which artists do you just not get? Country music, pretty much in it's entirety. It has to be WAY into the rock side of country-rock before I care for it at all.I also can't stand the doctored-voice, synth-background of most of today's pop divas. I realize that it's not aimed at me,...
What Is the best pair of speakers under 3k?? Those are two very different speakers - both excellent, but very different. If you like both, I'd suggest spending at least a couple hours auditioning each with all types of music that you like to listen to and see how the experience is across a w...
hifi as investment? Wheeler - yeah, a better subject for the thread would probably be "creating your own full-credit upgrade plan". Many full-service dealers used to offer a full-credit upgrade plan if you wanted to, say, trade in your speakers you bought from them f... |
