glam rock fans?
Nice connect-the-dots by r_f_sayles, and I agree with all of it - everything he mentions is a lot of fun to listen to.
What concerts have your kids dragged you to?
Taking my son to the Nine Inch Nails / Queens of the Stone Age concert next month. I'd go even if he didn't want to though - several friends wish I'd give them the ticket instead.
WAV Files, Wireless and Laptop Remote
Can't help you with #1. For #2, I don't know if it's the best, but I use an M-Audio 24/96 sound card, and I use the coaxial output. It's raw, bit-for-bit, output, and works great. There are several other options for this as well. I don't use iTune...
Good Bass Floorstander under 1K
NHT is affordable, especially used, and known for having an extended low-end. I owned the 2.9's for a while and can attest to the reputation. Some models have styling that is not for everybody. In any case, the VT-2's are an older speaker, often a...
its all about the music,no way hose
Well, turn it around - if there was no music, I certainly wouldn't buy the gear.I don't know if I've ever said it was exclusively about the music, but I think the point that others have made that I listen to music regularly, both on a nice system ...
What is the test of time?
Test 1: Is the music seen as having made a lasting contribution to the art form? Is it something that others copied or built on?Test 2: Do people still actively listen to it N years later?Test 3: N years later, is the band / album / song "remember...
Power amps for Dynaudio C2's
I own the C2's as well, and drive them with the Krell FPB-200c. What I listen to is on the other end of the spectrum from you, however - rock, blues and jazz, with the occassional vocalist, folk, etc. They also do double-duty, as I love HT. I've o...
Dynaudio Confidence C1's and Special 25's
It might depend on what you mean by "presentation", but I think it's a safe bet that either of those newer models would be a significant improvement on the 1.3's - I think they're both improvements without giving up what you like about the 1.3's.I...
what made you get into high end gear.
Ever since I realized I could have sound in my own room as a teenager I've realized that I could have something that sounded better. Good sound was probably the first "good taste" I naturally came across - the first thing I realized that I was int...
is it an upgrade or just fun?
This seems to be one of the biggest mental blocks about my hobby for my wife - that I actually enjoy the process of trying out new stuff. It's definitely fun to try different things even if you're not expecting them to bring an improvement.
Non-Copy Controlled Coldplay X&Y
Copy-protected CDs that don't play or don't play correctly. DualDiscs that literally get stuck in many players. How long until we have some scheme where the disc "occassionally" blows up when you hit Play?So far, I've managed to not purchase a sin...
How do I go backwards?
I haven't had to do it, but I like Cruz123's suggestion - sell it all for the most you can get for it, read some books or watch some movies for a few months, and then re-enter the hobby. When things aren't going well, change some things - do thing...
Sub opinions team up with the Dynaudio 1.3SE
I have never owned the 1.3SE's, but I've been using a Velodyne DD-15 with a pair of Confidence 3's the past couple years with excellent results. That would be in your higher price category, used.
Listening habits
Every day I'm home, between 1 and 3 hours during the week, longer on weekends. Usually moderate levels, but louder when possible.
Why don't kids nowadays know about Jazz and classi
My daughter is an avid cellist, constantly exposes herself to classical music, and has an ability to retain knowledge like very few people I've ever met. Her understanding of the music, both the breadth available as well as insight on the individu...
