I2S, S/PDIF, Toslink connections
Dunno but it is doable. I wrote a pair of articles many years back (1995-7) about how to do this. They appeared in Audio Amateur which has morphed into AudioXpress. The articles were called "Get on the Bus" parts 1 and 2. While the specific device...
MULTI-CH SACD'S on 2CH SOUND STRANGE?
Isn't there a readout on the EMM that tells you what track/format is being played? My players do.
Saint-Saens: Symphony No. 3 "Organ" surround?
I have lots and I would certainly put the Munch near the top along with its near contemporary, the Paray on MLP.
Has the Oppo carried the AV industry?
Wow, Avgoround. I've owned a half dozen Oppo players and never paid much attention to their video quality. What distinguishes them, imho, are their cutting-edge audio implementations (along with their customer service).

I prefer this one on all counts: http://www.sa-cd.net/showtitle/4356
I2S, S/PDIF, Toslink connections
That's 2. Not as many as the original I2S and not standard HDMI either so that's a consideration.

The only company that uses I2S over HDMI is PS Audio.
MULTI-CH SACD'S on 2CH SOUND STRANGE?
This thread is strange. First, the comment about SACDs not sounding as good on SACD players is nonsense. There are good and bad players but CD players simply cannot play SACDs at all. They can play only the CD-compatible layer of hybrids (which is...
MULTI-CH SACD'S on 2CH SOUND STRANGE?
I doubt it has anything to do with multichannel mastering since both French_fries and Stereo5 are listening on 2 channel players. Their machines should not ever access the multichannel tracks.
Sony SCD-XA5400ES
From the Sony document:"The audio boards of this SCD-XA5400ES employ glass epoxy four-layer boards. This makes the signal, ground, and power supply wiring ideal. Right and left circuits including balanced circuits are laid out quite symmetrically,...
Any inexpensive ways to check acoustic response
There is a simple solution: Room EQ Wizard (http://www.hometheatershack.com/roomeq/) and a RS sound level meter. The software is free and the RS meter is cheap. It will have some FR issues at the low end but is adequate. The next steps up are to:1...
Using HDMI output on Sony 5400ES and OPPO BDP-95
Yes. The Oppo needs a monitor for setup but only for setup and not afterwards.
Passive/line stage HT preamp?
The most common choice for this is the Parasound P7.
how do YOU stream?
Oppo player streams all needed formats from my hard drives in another room via SMB/ethernet. No additional components in the main room.
Volume affected by uneven lengths of spker cable??
Gregm wrote:the left side is 12ft and the right is 7 ft.................You'd be loading the amp differently on each channel, as mentioned, albeit slightly in real terms. It is a gross exaggeration to say "slightly" in this context. Inconsequentia...
