Best Integrated for 400 dollars
I'm using an 80's Sony "Legato" "ACT"(Ta-Ax6) int. amp to drive my Chorus 705's. It's an excellent amp. Another 80's Sony int. amp (Ta-Ax44)drives my daughter's Energy XL-15's. For the $ used, unbeatable. IMO, I would look into a warm sounding/ref...
Crimping bare speaker cable connections
I believe there will be oxidation on the wire no matter what unless the joint is made air-tight somehow. I had to reterminate the amp end spades on my Cardas Quadlink 5c w/bananas because of my new int. amp's poor binding post design. I will say, ...
Question on KEF speakers
Energy C-1's are excellent speakers. To my ear, they sound better than the Q1's. The quality of the Energy's is top-notch, and given their very modest retail $, they are an absolute steal. They are more coherant than the KEF Q1's. The Kef's probab...
New vs Used when buying please share thoughts
The most important issue other than finding equipment which has "syenergy" w/each other, your tastes & the room in which these components will be going in, is the SELLER'S reputation/track record of honesty and integrity. Good communication is...
Need some help with speaker stands
The U.S. web-site which carried these stands no longer have them. You'll have to do some searching but it will be worth it. In England they are everywhere it seems. I wish I was able to post a picture of my stands, but I don't own a digital camera...
Do You Remember Your First CD Player?
An Hitachi which was given as a gift in early 80's. Still works perfectly today!
need more smoothness
Also, your IC's and Spkr. wires? You may want to consider ones that fall into the "warm" side of the spectrum.
Need some help with speaker stands
I would recommend you consider Atacama Nexus 6 stands. My 705's are on solid oak stands I made. Super easy to make if you have the most basic of tools/skills. (2) 26" solid oak 2"x2" center poles (2) solid oak 12"x12" bases, (2) exact fit top-plat...
What steps forward were actually steps backward?
The modern inexpensive int. amp (under $1800) which I've owned recently, haven't been all that great sounding especially given their cost.(The exception, a French Kora "Explorer" which IMO is an outstanding sounding amp) The sound quality of older...
Adjustable-height speaker stands--comments/recs?
Usher makes a couple of stands which appear to be adjustible. Not sure of the diminsions of the top-plate or how just how affordable they are. They appear very attractive in my opinion.
Totem Beaks
Mine are 1" in diameter. Appear about 2" tall. Performance is very spk. dependent. I've noticed that smaller "bookshelf" spks. benefit most, IMO. I place them near the front corners.
Unequal volume between channels - Help
I suspect the volume pot. I once owned an older Arcam int. amp which had this same imbalance issue at very low volume. You might be able to add a high quality "Blue Alps" pot. to your Jolida, or adjust the balance knob. My former 102b did not have...
Canare StarQuad or Monster XP speaker cable?
Fish, IMO forget the Monster XP's, especially since your having them installed in your walls. Not familiar w/the Canare's. Money spent now will well be worth the agony and regret later.
Soundstage there/gone/moves - poor current ????
The surest way to rest your mind at ease, if its possible/practical, would be to have a couple of dedicated lines installed. If that's not possible, I would check out what outlets are on the circuit you are using. Many times these outlets are dais...
Soundstage there/gone/moves - poor current ????
It's the incoming power which contains all sorts of nasties.Power conditioners, dedicated lines, fancy outlets, etc., all make an improvement. Also, the time of day, your mood, humidity, you name it, all have effect of how we preceive things. Righ...
