How long for tube break in
Don't forget about the rest of the components(spk. wires/IC's, etc.) re-settling in after the change.
Jolida 1501 sound gone from great to eh. Help
I think you need to play w/spk. placement. It sounds to me you need to set your spks. farther apart. Or you may need to buy floorstanding spks. If you like JM Labs perhaps the Chorus 710. Audio Advisor has a great deal going on these spks. I bough...
Kimber 8TC with Energy Connoisseur C-9s?
I would recommend you consider the VS series over the TC series. IMO, they don't have as much detail on the top-end which might benefit bright spks. and electronics. The VS are a much better buy and sound warmer/more musical to my ears. OR, just b...
What do you like about your "favorite" retailer?
They give me sodas. Also, they happen to be wonderful people whom I greatly their company. (Friendly atmosphere/very fair prices/home trial-outs and absolutely no pressure to buy whatsoever. I do try to purchase/and support local dealers as much a...
Kimber Hero vs Nordost Blue Heaven vs VDH mk iii
Haven't had the opportunity to hear the Nordust Blue Heaven, but have owned the others. The Kimber's, IMO, are leaner than the VDH's. So it would depend on what your goals are. Being than the dollar is so weak @ the moment, it will cost you more t...
Is the significance of room acoustics overrated?
I personally do not believe spk. placement is more important than the acoustical properties of the room. Every room has a certain size of spk./driver which will provide optimal sound quality. Finding the right match-up is critical. Had a open room...
Stereo system Too Bright
You need to change your IC & spk. wire before making any other changes. I would recommend Tara Labs Prism 22/33, Wireworld Oasis III, VDH D-102 among the possible choices. RS "Flatline Gold" 14ga. spk. wire is a really good inexpensive spk. ca...
Upgrade for Snell E/III speakers
I changed the stock wiring in my J/IV's to Kimber 4TC using 3, not 4 of the wires. This seemed to make an improvement. Also, connected the both low/high spk. wires into one set of binding posts. Sounds good to me. On my E/III's I don't plan to pla...
$1130 system for a musician, please :
I personally would buy some floorstanders instead of stand-mounted spks. I have always more pleased w/soft domed tweeters as well, especially if your electronics are not on the warm stand. Not having heard the new NAD C-320 Int. amp, it seems like...
Good inexpensive phono pre-amp for Technic 1200s?
One possible choice is the Project Sumiko. Most Excellent. Sounded much better than the Rotel I was using prior.
Spray or brush on material for inside sheet metal?
Thanks for your responses! I have limited rack space and have a tape deck sitting on top. All this talk about controlling resonances had me curious to see if something for very little $ could improve the performance of this fine sounding CDP. Next...
Integrated Amp and Speakers for a teenager?
I don't believe you should spend more than $150-200 used for your int. amp. On Audiogon, NAD 312 $150 obo. On E-bay, a couple of Rotel RA-820's are for sale. Absolutely nothing wrong w/ older electronics. They were build very well and sound IMO ex...
Why so little discussion about Snell ?
Also own a pair of walnut E-III's which sound absolutely superb w/my Kora "Explorer Si-90" int. amp. (Retubed w/Telefunken's) Wonderful speakers! Wonderful Company which offers such great customer support. I wish you and Snell continued success fo...
Un-equal length speaker cable advice??
Somewhere I read a 20% variation in cable length is acceptable. It would depend on the level of your neurosis and the class of your equipment as well. I've read also that coiled wired is a no-no as well. What's a person to do? I perfer equal lengt...
Terminating Type 4 cable...
The AQ Type 4 cable which I recently bought from One Call com. had two reds/black wires. Since the wires are of different guage (20/17?) and are difficult to distinquish (at least to me),I would give AQ a call and ask them how to terminate.
