Snell Type E/III or E/IV?
I haven't had the opportunity to compare the two, but I do own the J/IV and the E/III and they are both excellent sounding/looking spks. (amp friendly as well). I've used both for music and movies and I'm completely satisfied. Both of these spks.(...
stuck in quagmire of speakers, someone pull me out
Of the spks. on your list I'd be inclined to go w/ the Monitor Audio's. I hope your condition improves and clarity/focus returns. This is the only the beginning...if you choose to persue this hobbie. Whichever spk. you choose, they have to have sy...
How can my $300 6 year old entry level Rotel sound
Its all very system dependent. The 16+ yr. old close to top of the line NEC CDP which I recently purchased sounds fantastic to my ears in context with the other components of my system. Go figure! 2X over-sampling and 16 bits, but very high mid-80...
Audiogon Abbr. Dictionary
I was athinking YMMV meant, "Your mileage may vary."
Tube rookie needs integrated advice.
Along w/the previous mentioned Jolida products, I would highly recommend you check out the Kora "Explorer SI 90"hybrid tube int. amp. Wonderful sounding amp!
Tube integrated amp for my son's first system.
The Jolida 301 30w hybrid int. amp would be an excellent choice. $200 used sounds like quite a deal. (I wouldn't sellmine that low.) Really good sounding amp.
Shipping Speakers, watch out
About half of the spks. which I've received has had some minor shipping damage, usually to the corners. Last time out, FedEx was very prompt @ making amends. I hope things work out well for you.
NAD C350 or Cambridge A500?
Between these two choices my gut feeling is go w/ the NAD. I think you'll have a better resale value and probably be able to sell quicker in the future should you decide.
Cary cares and now I care about Cary.
I had the opportunity to meet Dennis and Kirk at a small reception. Really nice people and they told some wonderful stories and are very passionate about audio. I wish them many years of success. Bill
Good Preamp for Adcom GFA-5400 $500 new or used
I'm not that familiar w/the Adcom Tuner/Pre-amps but I too have been giving them some thoughts lately. They would match up well cosmetically w/ your preset amp and they would have the convenience of a tuner/pre-amp w/remote. Nice. You might give so...
What the Difference 20/BIT&24BIT CD Player
I owned the Denon 1500 MkII, which I believe came out before your 1520. I would consider adding an outboard DAC and see how things sound before spending alot of $ on a new player. CAL made a tube DAC which would certainly warm things up! (Great fo...
What was your first system, & did you like it?
Checked the classified ads each week looking for that great deal on Kenwood seperates. Found/bought a Kenwood KA-7100/KT 7300 tuner for $365 new. Used w/4 JBL L-40's, Teac R2R, Garrand Zero-100 TT in a small room for many years. Still using the in...
Comments on Fanfare FM-2G - FM Antenna
I have the Magnum-Dynalab on one of my tuners and it is nothing special. Moving around doesn't really improve reception all that much, but, I haven't tried the attic or outside. Presently it's located behind a Mitsubishi 40" TV where cosmetics are...
Receiver for Spendor S3/5se
I would think that the NAD T752 should be able to drive them fine being 80w x5 with 150w dynamic. Whether this or any of the receivers on your list will "compliment" the Spendors ??? Owned the S 3/5's and I drove them fine w/ an 80w receiver. One ...
Receiver for Spendor S3/5se
I would look into this. Sherwood Newcastle R-925 (new) at www.avielectronics.com/blowout.html for $375. If this still available and the dealer is authorized and is selling A-stock/new unopened box this is very much worth considering. (I believe th...
