Anyone Using Crystals?
Hope is free, until you spend your money on this BS.It may all seem stupid, but there will be someone even stupider that will buy this crap.Ice is a crystal too. Stick some in your amp, and as it melts it will absorb excess heat.
A Big DIY Bang for Your Buck?
Geoff - sorry for the joke. I sent it before I could consider. I hold no animosity toward you, and hope you can accept it as just a quick poke.
A Big DIY Bang for Your Buck?
"My thesis, which was selected to be presented at the national AIAA conference, was on the dodgy subject of bombarding highly magnetized metal with high energy ions to produce low thrust for an engine to be used for interplanetary travel."Is t...
A speaker that looks like a driver or a driver that looks like a speaker?
Making a speaker look like a driver is like building a motel that looks like a bed, or a toll booth in the shape of a dollar sign. Design like that is usually abandoned by the age of 9.
Can Pass XA60.8's drive Revel Ultima Salon2's without their tongues hanging out?
Your room is gonna get so hot that your tongue will be hanging out. Just a little humor... I know it's not that bad.
Your first component that was "special"
Audio Research D-60 Solid State Amp. I eventually got two and ran them in bridged mode. Lots of power, but had to be careful with speaker impedance... which I knew nothing about. They never had a problem though.
Doh, left system off all night
We have lost the battle a long time ago, as the sun will eventually grow larger and consume the earth. There's just no stopping it.

Components I would have died for when I was a wee pup
Tech Hi-Fi used to put out a sales book of complete systems at ever increasing price levels. I used to look at that more that Playboy. I was always thinking I could spend a little bit more. Kind of like buying a boat. It always gets bigger even be...
Class "A" sound, as related to Stereophile.
You are missing Al's point. With a CD player the preamp will most likely be reducing the signal to the amp, not amplifying it. Without some way to reduce the source singal everything would be one volume level, and very loud!
Don't think my preamp likes feeding signal to two seperate places.
Solid state buffer is a better idea, but where do you get one? They no longer make the Burson, and others of high quality are hard to find. A passive buffer? What is that? Eric, please explain a bit more, thanks

I have had the same experience. I got a Musical Fidelity Tube buffer that has a 300K input impedance. I stuck it between the pre out and the sub in. Now the overall input impedance was raised quite a bit and it effectively removes the sub from the...
The dumbest stereo experience ever!
OK this really is true. When I was a small kid I was given an AM/FM clock radio. I actually thought that I was supposed to switch it to AM in the morning and FM at night because I thought FM was really PM, only that mine said FM due to a problem w...

I knew someone who insisted his amp was the best because it went up to 11. Oh..wait ... that might have been a movie.
