Thinking about going electrostatic @bill1957 There's no place near me to listen to them I'm in mannsville ny. Plenty of good snowmobile and ATV dealers up near Watertown!
Thinking about going electrostatic I agree with @kennymacc....you’re the only one who can make that decision, but you’ll likely need to try them in your space to see. They can be pretty sensitive about placement, room, and the rest of the signal chain. All part of the fun! Any con...
Would like to get more bass out of my B&W 801 series 2 speakers That’s a large room with a lot of volume. I’d add room treatment and an active subwoofer or two for an easy increase in bass output. Bi-amping could help. A big SS amp on those woofers should bring some life to them, especially if you go next lev...
Frank is gone. AVA lives on! Never heard an AVA product I didn't like the sound of. He was a brilliant class act, and will be sorely missed. May he RIP
Speaker hum from Subwoofer My Definitive Technology sub stopped humming when I moved the plug to a different outlet that’s on a different circuit. Worth a try if it's feasible.
Which inexpensive speaker cables... Monoprice, GearIt, Canare, and others offer similar wire that’s excellent value and performance. Especially the bulk OFC cables that you can DIY pretty easily. Make sure to steer clear of copper clad aluminum (CCA).
Such Great help before. Maybe some more help now The end game is always to enjoy your system. If you like it as-is, you’re good....but here you are asking! A system is always only as good as the weakest link, there’s always something that can be improved. It really depends on how far you want t...
How do you A/B amps in your system? Like @ghdprentice, I use long term listening sessions for evaluation, not A/B back and forth. Extended sessions give me chance to listen to a wide variety of music and get a good feel for it's strengths and weaknesses. Some things really start t...
Tube Sound With Equalization? The tube sound I go after isn’t typically just something to do with frequency response fluctuations, but comes via an enhanced sense of clarity, at least partly from the harmonic structure of the tubes. Not sure how that can be eq’d into the equat...
Warm sounding phono cartridge @au_lait @knotscott Mentioned Nagaoka… IME the MP500 has an exaggerated top end, to the point many people attempt to tame it, That has not been my experience at all, nor have even read heard about that being an issue from others. Quite the ...
Where do I go from here? Speakers typically have the most influence on what you hear, as they're the interface for the room. The room is there to stay, but acoustical treatment can have a significant impact, so is a good place to spend some research time, and experiment....
Warm sounding phono cartridge 'The Nagoaka MP500 is a moving permalloy cart with a nude fine line profile on a boron cantilever. It's easy on the ears, but retains an inviting lively natural sounding detail with excellent dynamics.
System advice One of my most accomplished audio buddies is a fan of NAIM amps and preamp. He pairs them with Focal Electra 906, and prefers the NAIM over some very good Cary tube gear. p.s.: I failed to mentioned that his preference for NAIM products is ve...
System advice One of my most accomplished audio buddies is a fan of NAIM amps and preamp. He pairs them with Focal Electra 906, and prefers the NAIM over some very good Cary tube gear. The most important thing is that you like the sound. It's hard to say wh...
System Advice I have a personal preference for good tube gear, but it’s always subjective. An audio buddy of mine just bought a used Linn LK140 solid state amp (LK85 is similar), and a new Schiit Saga 2 preamp, and absolutely loves the sound he’s getting with t... |
