"The Art of Speaker Design" by Lynn Olson I’ve not read articles by Lynn Olson, but may thanks to your lead. Years ago, Vance Dickason Loudspeaker Design Cookbook was my go-to speaker reference. (Al Gore had invented the internet yet) Some go points made above. Speaker design is both fa...
Totem Forrest - old but still good The Seas H400 can be exceptional. Not too difficult to tame at all. Not that there aren't better options now, but it can be really good.
Totem Forrest - old but still good Good design and good parts can stay fashionable for decades. 😎
Why are high efficiency speakers preferred for low volume listening? I doubt that high efficiency speakers and good low level detail are absolutes. It’s likely more important that things like the amp being a good match to drive the speaker impedance, the system has good resolution, and that phase coherency and over...
PSVANE Discussion & Impressions Thread @alightronics Well, you at least got me to look. I was largely unimpressed with the pricing until I realized they were 2-packs....12BH7 and 12AX7 added to my watchlist. 😎
PSVANE Discussion & Impressions Thread Given the ridiculous price of tubes these days, how about doing the unthinkable? Make a premium sounding highly reliable tube sold at a discount to all competitor's prices. It'd be a revelation, and you'd dominate the market. (just a thought...😎)
Changing a speaker color Never tried vinyl, but it sounds plausible. In 1990, I took my raw MDF cabinets to a classic car painter. He sanded, filled, primed, sanded some more, and applied coats of black and clear lacquer. Aside from a few inevitable minor dings, the pain...
If you had to choose... All well regarded choices, but it's such a personal choice. I'd be sure to at least hear them, preferably in your room before parting with the ATCs.
Active Speakers Don't Sound Better I understand the simplicity, and especially time savings. Passive crossovers can take a long time to evaluate, change, burn in, re-evaluate, etc. ...But...there are pro and cons with every option, and like most things, execution of a given princip...
Auditioning Used Equipment - Am I crazy ? The dealer may change their mind if the amp sits on his premise for months without a bite.
Best 12AU7? Can't tell which one is best, but can tell you that the RCA clear tops are no slouch, and are typically reasonable. How any tube sounds will vary a bit with each system and circuit.
Which has a greater influence on sound quality, the amp or the preamp? It really depends on how neutral and transparent each piece in question is. In a top notch system, the weakest link will stick out like a sore thumb...not so much on a system with multiple veiling and smearing issues. Plus, as mentioned, the amp/s...
Tube preamp topologies and music Tube amps are as subjective as anything in audio, which is extremely. The most important opinion is yours. IMHO it's more important to have an amp that works well with your speakers, and sounds good in your room than to try to match an amp to a ...
Do you belong more to souce first or to speakers first school of thought ? Speakers interact with the room, which should be a significant consideration..
Help, my system seem to have slowly gotten " bright" What speakers are you using, and how old are they? |
