I find myself "tuning out" anymore.....is the magic fading?
Buy some new music, treat yourself to a top shelf version of your favorite adult beverage, and have yourself a moment with your system.  Ultimately, the destination isn't really about audio.
Do military/industrial tubes sound better than regular ones ?
Many are dubbed military or industrial for a variety of different reasons, so it'll depend a lot on each individual tube, and what makes them different.  Plus a lot of tubes sound different on different circuits, and it's all very subjective.
At the top of the line is it really all that different?
Tough topic to give a good response to. There are so many variables involved, and so much subjectivism that how good something sounds, and how well it works together are major elements. The influence of the room and setup are huge factors. Add the...
soft dome versus hard dome tweeters
@asctim I’m all about that midrange too. But a lot of tweeters go a significant way down in to it. And, how that midrange marries to the other frequencies matters. That’s it right there in a nutshell! Well said.   @tunefuldude You should add ...
soft dome versus hard dome tweeters
There is a design called "woofer-assisted wide-band" or WAWB for short.  It's exactly what you describe.  A wide band, such as a 4" driver that has credible output in the top octave along with a woofer that crosses in well below 500 Hz. Check out...
Takatsuki 300B $255 !!
@audiot It's an empty box whywould you pay 255 for a nice box? I get the feeling this is tongue in cheek
what is more popular silver or black face plates
More concerned about the performance, but black draws less attention to itself.
Need a little help
Ditto...+1
My Sonus Faber Amatis have weak bass even though I'm running ML 536s--800 w/ch into 4 ohms
As  mentioned - If new, the woofer suspension will loosen up over time and start to sound as designed, but can sound restricted early on. Double check that the polarity of the speaker wires is correct at both ends....you can even take a battery w...
soft dome versus hard dome tweeters
...Soft domes tend to be easier to work with, are more forgiving of "smaller implementation issues," @immatthewj when you guys refer to "smaller implementation" are you referring to the size of the speaker or the size of the room the speaker i...
soft dome versus hard dome tweeters
It’s difficult to be accurate with general statements about any tweeter type, but keeping a potentially long post short, there’s never a free lunch, and every option has pros and cons. Choosing becomes an exercise in identifying your objectives, a...
Impedance - The most ignored and useful measurement tool
Great post!
Thinking about going electrostatic
@bill1957  There's no place near me to listen to them I'm in mannsville ny. Plenty of good snowmobile and ATV dealers up near Watertown!
Thinking about going electrostatic
I agree with @kennymacc....you’re the only one who can make that decision, but you’ll likely need to try them in your space to see. They can be pretty sensitive about placement, room, and the rest of the signal chain. All part of the fun! Any con...
Would like to get more bass out of my B&W 801 series 2 speakers
That’s a large room with a lot of volume. I’d add room treatment and an active subwoofer or two for an easy increase in bass output. Bi-amping could help. A big SS amp on those woofers should bring some life to them, especially if you go next lev...
