Helping a kid out
I can offer no advice, but I love the story.... :-)
Tube Amp recommendations to drive Klipsch Forte III
The VTA amps are impressive and compete with a lot gear that costs much more. Less expensive yet in kit form. Willsenton integrated amps are getting a lot of love these days for awesome performance for not a ton of money.
Bi Wiring Speakers from Luxman L-509X
The only downside is the cost of the extra speaker wires. The upside is highly debated, but experimenting is always fun.
Need more power, Bi-amping does it work or does it just sound wrong
A stock version should work fine with your modified HCA-2 in a horizontal bi-amp configuration if both have same output power, and input impedance. I’d put the modified amp on the mids/tweeters, assuming it has better clarity. If the gain doesn’t ...
Help/advice, upgrading my vintage amplifier!
In addition to Rogue and Jolida, I'll add Willsenton to the recommendation list.  They have a couple of excellent value tube integrated amps.
No response from seller
Happens outside of the audio world too.  Most FB or CL sellers are pretty decent people, but some will only lift a finger if it benefits them....including removing a sold listing.
My ProAc Studio 200s are….
... instruments just became fuller, more liquid sounding….a bit larger, more dimensional….but in all…..just more lifelike than the solid state My sentiments exactly with a lot of decent tube amps mated to transparent speakers.
MM Cartridge Recommendation
Picking a cart is VERY subjective, and the synergy of a cart with any given system is a variable.  If a system is neutral to slightly warmish, a brighter cart can liven things up and sound great....but the same cart on a system that's already on t...
Going monoblock?
Monoblocks give you an entire amp dedicated to one speaker, and no crosstalk, which corresponds to better separation, wider soundstage, better dynamics, and sometimes improved clarity, but there are lots of variables. You could always ask Sonus Fab...
What audio expos are worth going to?
It’s been a long time since I’ve been, but there used to be a CES in Las Vegas in January, and one in Chicago in June. Not even sure if that’s true anymore, but there is one scheduled in Vegas January 5-8, 2022. Covid vaccination is required. What ...
MM Cartridge Recommendation
I didn’t find the Nagaoka MP carts anymore difficult to setup than any other cart. The MP500 weighs about 8 grams. The line contact stylus is more sensitive to VTA and alignment than conicals and ellipticals in general, but that’s more the nature ...
I'm looking for a pair of interconnects that won't shatter the bank....
SKW RCA cables are excellent and affordable.Primedia cables are quite good for dirt cheap too:https://www.ebay.com/itm/202959567957
In general, how does price relate to quality?
Sound quality is extremely subjective, so it's tough to correlate price with what you like.  Higher price should at least buy more luxurious aesthetics, and/or more expensive base components.
Pairing advice
A little bit of concern for brightness early on, can often to lead to despair and misery down the road. Sorry I can't help more from hands on experience with your inquiry.
Ex Dunlavy Owners - What Other Speakers Have Made You Happy?
Have you given Magico speakers a listen yet?   I've owned and heard several Merlin speakers.   The Magico S5 MkII sounded pretty impressive to me on similar equipment that I've heard Merlins on.
