Help.... I'm scared to 'upgrade'! I am surprised about noise issues with the Parasound JC3+. I don't have the 3+ (wish I did), but I do use the JC 3+'s little sister the JC3 Jr. That phonostage and the system as as a whole are so quiet that I can stick my head up inside the Oris...
Ortofon Cadenza Range loading range I run the Cadenza Bronze with a loading of 200 ohms, but I’m not sure I could hear the difference if it were 300 ohms instead.
Thoughts on the various platter materials used in Pro-Ject's midrange turntables? My Clearaudio Performance DC Wood has a 40mm thick POM platter. I have never used or felt the need for any platter mat. Am I missing something important?
For all you Bose 901 Haters! I know it is fashionable to bash Bose 901s, but in 1972 when my wife and I bought Series 1 901s and a McIntosh 2105 amp to drive them they sounded damned fine to us, college kids who loved to party. We spent a little money my wife had inherited t...
What phono preamp are you using? I run a Parasound JC 3 Jr. with a Ortofon Cadenza Bronze. I like the combination very much, but I expect to eventually ujpgrade the phonostage.
Cartridge recommendations under $2500 If we strictly adhere to your under $2,500.00 qualification I think the Ortofon Cadenza Bronze would be hard to beat.
Horn speakers are really bright? The years have taught me that generalizations about audio are often wrong. I agree. Saying horn speakers are bright makes no more sense than would be the case if you said sealed speakers are bright or ported speakers are bright.
How does a modular and configurable center weight for turntables work? A Record Doctor weight and clamp ($37.50 from Amazon) serves my modest needs very well. It has a nicely machined brass collet that firmly grasps the spindle.
To Buy or to DIY, here is my question Real gratification comes from visualizing a new speaker, designing it, building it and changing it until it sounds as you first imagined it. In 1999 I got the idea of building a fully horn loaded system with the bass provided by folded corner hor...

Best 6x9 Speakers I have the JBL upscale stereo in my 2008 Tundra and the Mark Levinson stereo in my 2002 Lexus. I use both for listening to books on CD or news stations on the radio. Serious music listening is done at home on my 2 ch. system.
Selecting Analog Gear Based on Music Preference? Turntables without isolation should not exist. None of them are worth looking at. I couldn't disagree more. After thirty plus years of using sprung tt, AR XA then VPI HW 19, I changed to an unsprung Clearaudio Performance DC Wood. I have neve...
Phono cables I don't understand why you don't just use the Aural Thrills patch cords, quit obsessing and instead kick back and enjoy the music.
I believe I experienced great PRAT for the first time I don't remember ever hearing good music, live or recorded, when I didn't hear PRAT.
I'm confused - Different music...different speakers? There are no such sounds in nature (rock) - this is every time the author’s invention ... interpretation P / S - if a person after 30 years old listens to such music - I feel sorry for him - he remained a child ... sometimes 1-2 songs can be l... |
