Which material sounds better for speakers construction? Wood, Ply or MDF?
When building my three way, triamplified all horn loaded DIY speakers I found a constrained layer construction of 3/4" marine plywood, 1/8" neoprene rubber and 1/4" aluminum to be a good choice for critical panels. 
What is the most FUN pair of speakers you've ever had and why?
Acoustat 2+2s with DIY JBL 18" subwoofers.  I still regret selling the stats.

On the advice of Dr. Edgar I built a pair of sand boxes slightly larger than the bottom of my Fitzmaurice HT Tuba subs.  Each box contains 100 pounds of fine white sand with the subs sitting directly on the sand.  I think this addresses both issue... 
How long do high quality speakers "last"
I bought a pair of Series 1 Bose 901s (closed box, rubber surrounds) I bought in 1972.  My son still has them.  They look and play fine in his basement party room.
