Pass Labs XA30.5 in my system?
Why did I type Mogami?  I meant Canare star quad XLR.
Pass Labs XA30.5 in my system?
The Pass Labs website does a great job of explaining their amplifier designs. If you wanted something that was less heat producing you could try their X series instead of the XA series. But I really don't think you have a problem with the heat fro...
Pass Labs XA30.5 in my system?
I can't imagine you not loving this amp in your system which is far from modest.  It will allow you to use XLR connections from your great Schiit DAC/primare and will drive your speakers without issue.  I've been using one for several years and ha...
Capacitance loading and fixed coil cartridges
BTW,  I have Ralph to thank for suggesting that in my system, that is a true balanced circuit from phono pre to power amp, that the interconnect is probably not a factor in its sound quality.  I spent a whopping 60 dollars on a pair of 20 foot Can...
Capacitance loading and fixed coil cartridges
Thanks lewm and Ralph.  Your posts are very helpful.  I particularly enjoy the units of inductance as milli Henries. I have a low capacitance phonocable and have the preamp set at the lowest capacitance, 100pF.  I am resistive loading the cartridg...
Capacitance loading and fixed coil cartridges
Thanks doncito101. I'm not asking if capacitance on the phono pre/cable affects output of the cartridge, but rather, if low output MI cartridges, like the SoundSmith Zephyr Star, benefit from capacitance loading like some higher output MI/MM cartr...
Capacitance loading and fixed coil cartridges
Also, these are great links.
Capacitance loading and fixed coil cartridges
Thanks Paul but what about MI cartridges with low output?
Capacitance loading and fixed coil cartridges
Thanks sfall, my question is not about how to deal with low output from a gain perspective but rather if low output fixed coil cartridges need a little capacitance unlike low output MC.  I use a phono pre that has no problem with gain or resistive...
Vandersteen Quatro CT
Thanks tomic601!  I would love to listen to a set of Ayre mono locks in my system too.  On the tube side, I think a pair of Atma-sphere MA-1s would be interesting to listen too as well. The quatro has low efficiency but a steady 8 ohms across the ...
Vandersteen Quatro CT
I have a Pass XA-30.5.  No way I'm leaving that beast on all the time!  But it warms up pretty fast.
Vandersteen Quatro CT
Good news CT.  Listened for a couple hours this morning.  Some 60's Miles and the new Dirty Projectors vinyl.  Even the non Carbon version sounds great!
Thinking About Upgrading The Tonearm On My Rega P5...
Hi SCM,I'm not sure that the V uses the 2000 arm as the V has been around longer than the 2000.  I suppose Jeff at Audiomods may change arm tubes without changing the series number?  At any rate, I wanted to pipe in here as I have a series V and h...
Recommend a SS amp for my new Vandersteen Quatro CT
Another poster mention Pass Labs.  I second that suggestion. I have been using an XA-30.5 for a couple years now with Quattro Woods (not CT).  It is a beautiful sounding combo.  I also use a Pass Labs preamp, XP-10.enjoy!
Vandersteen Quatro CT
I had a pair of Vandersteen 2ci's as my first pair of "hifi" speakers. Then went to some more accurate sounding kit speakers (North Creek) then some used Vandy 5's and then Legacy Focus SE.  I returned to Vandersteen Quatro woods when I had the op...
