audio newbie question Depending on the size of your room, I would check out the Vandersteen 2ce signature. Still one of the best values in hi end. They sound better and better as you improve the upstream signal. Very musical. Listen to a pair.
Recommendations for used cd player I would second the suggestion for a Theta Miles. A definate bargain that would complement your excellent system. It is a huge step up from the very good Rotel and EAD.
Bi-wiring...tell me more Yes you can biwire. The only thing you need is the correct speaker cable. Bi-wire speaker cable involves a single set of terminations on the amp end and a dual set on the speaker end. Like two runs of speaker cable combined into one at the amp end...
New Massive Attack LP: 100 th Window Check out the review in www.pitchforkmedia.com This album doesn't sound too promising. That won't stop me from buying it of course.-Karl
$2000 CDP for Rock Music???? I would consider a Theta Miles. Preferably a balanced version (two DACs per channel.) I also listen to the genre of music you describe and I can tell you that the Miles seems to get the rhythm and pacing of rock music perfectly. I think you will f...
Little Know Speaker Builders I don't know if this counts as "little known" but... I would seriously consider North Creek speakers.www.northcreekmusic.com Lee Taylor will build any of the cabinets and installing the crossovers and drivers is not rocket science. The quality of ...
Tightening binding posts problem Some posts are just not going to get tight without stripping themselves. I had this problem and converted my posts to WBT's. Now no problems. A couple hundred dollars later of course (darn BiWire!)-Karl
Earplugs for conerts? What?
Sigur Ros KID-A's Daddy ? They are currently touring the U.S.A. Nice live show.I don't really hear the Kid A in their Agaetis Byrjun. To me they have a very retro 80's sound. Like a sedated Sugarcubes meets the Jesus and Mary Chain. Well descriptions are pretty worthless. ...
DIY Speakers, worth the hassles? Agree with all the above posts. I am currently in love with my North Creek Rhythm Signatures. I had the cabinets built by their resident master - Lee Taylor. The quality of the the kit components, especially the crossovers, are way high end. To my...
Review: Theta Digital Miles CD Player Do you have the balanced version? I'm a big fan. -Karl
Tubelike solid state: Ayre Vs Aleph I would listen to a BAT VK-500. It added the appropriate low end energy without sacrificing the beautiful mids and highs in my system. Like the Ayre, it is a two gain stage, zero negative feedback power amp. Quite a bit cheaper than the Pass gear ...
CDR Fidelity? Thanks all. Sounds like my PC is the culprit. I am not surprised.
good CD player with variable output? I love the Theta Digital Miles. Especially the balanced version. Should be available for around $1200 used. Beware though, they are discontinued. Also, they use the discontinued Pioneer stable platter mechanism. All this aside they sound fantastic.
