Any Levinson owners/critics out there?
I've owned a number of Levinson pieces, currently:ML-1 preamp (an early classic, and still excellent)360 DAC (superb)37 transport27.5 ampLevinson equipment has been variously catagorized as"dark", "uninvolving", "sterile", "lacking dynamics"and ot...
Help with NEW MC cartridge putchase
I second the vote for the Denon DL-103D, a classicMC cartridge. I owned one twenty years ago, sold it,and regretted that. I picked up a new one last year from Denon USA. It is an outstanding value. You'd needto spend >$1000 to substantially bet...
BEST Speakers for the BANG around 2K
I'm using a pair of Magnepan 1.6QR and a Rel Strata IIIsub along with Levinson 37/360/ML-1/27.5 and it soundsgreat.
OK all you Infinity RS 1A/1B Beta speaker owners..
Not recommended......... The crossover has beencriticized (correctly) as not being up to the standardof the rest of the speaker system. Nevertheless, itis necessary to use some type of crossover so as notto overdrive the mid/tweeter panels with a ...
Best Dac you ever heard
I'm using a Levinson #360 with a 37 transport. It is superb. I previously owned a Wadia 2000 which wasitself quite excellent but the 360 is a step up. Ishas air, excellent soundstaging and imaging, bassdefinition and impact and a clean, nonfatigui...
Vandersteen or REL or.......?????? Think small
I'm using a Rel Strata III with Magnepan 1.6QRIt integrates well and is very flexible.
Do "gold" discs sound better?
Agree with the above. Gold looks fancy, but is essentiallyirrelevant to the sound. The two consistently best labelsin my experience for sound quality are JVC/XRCD andMapleshade, both of which use exclusively aluminum discs.
I need to be wowed
Seamless, coherent, superb soundstaging and imaging, three dimensional. More musically satisfying thanmany speakers 4X their modest cost.
mark levinson 23.5 or Ayre V5? That's the problem
I take exception with Karls comment that ML amps are sterile and sanitized. I've owned a #23 and currentlya 27.5 and I like them very much. They lack the brittleedge of many solid state amps, have solid well-definedbass and a warm midrange. I've o...
Alpha Core Goertz......need recommendations
I've owned RS-1B's (superb speaker, by the way...just toobig for my present room). I'm using Alpha-core GoertzMI-2 speaker cables, and Tourmaline IC's to the power amp,Goertz Sapphire in the system. I'm very pleased with theGoertz cables, and have...
XRCD vs. SACD anyone?
The XRCD series is superb in sound quality, demonstratingthat the limiting factor in Redbook CD is NOT (for the mostpart) the format, but rather the mediocre mastering of mostrecordings. Similarly, other Redbook CD's are available which are also o...
Anyone using Levinson 27.5, 23.5 in bridged mode??
I asked the same question last week but got no answers.I currently use a 27.5 and it is an outstanding amp. Somefeel it's even better in sound than the 23.5, no slouchby itself. However I'm looking to increase power for myMagnepans. According to t...
where do i go from here?
Think about getting a Rel Strata III subwoofer. It has ahighly configurable crossover system with tight, tunefulbass and more than adequate power for all but the largestrooms. I'm using one with Magenpan speakers which arehistorically very difficu...
200w/ch stereo amps: best 1 for under 2000 used?
I used to own a Levinson #23 which was excellent. I nowuse a 27.5 which is lower power (100w/chan) but somewhatmore transparent. The #23 is very stable into a varietyof loads, good imaging and soundstaging and smooth.
Large room making me apprehensive....
Look at a TacT Audio RCS 2.0 I'm using onein a 10X17' bedroom, the opposite problem you face. It was the most significant upgrade to mysystem (Mark Levinson/Magnepan). You'll be impressedwith the positive effect it produces on your system.
