SS amp mosfet 'haze' - ever experienced this? It is a generalisation and I accept that a lot of people don't seem to hear this and maybe never will.We do not all hear or at least listen the same way,but there are also many people who hear this haze and prefer valve amps. Not that some of them ...
SS amp mosfet 'haze' - ever experienced this? Hazy is how the vast majority of SS amps sound.Compressed too.Efficient speakers just highlight it more. The one exception seems to be chip amps that can sound amazingly clear and fresh on sensitive speakers.
best shippers? I make fine furniture and send it worldwide from Australia.Allied Pickfords have proven to be good but none of them are perfect.I sent a dining table to Canada only to have it damaged as it was being delivered to its final destination by local con...
Xover parts quality,/sound difference? After over twenty years of building and modifying speakers crossover design and components remains a bit of a mystery.I really think that most good speakers are just a fluke synergy between crossovers components and drivers and something that is h...
Amplifier Weight. A Factor? Sbrtoy is right. The monster SS amps will become dinasours if they are not already. Many of them also sound apalling-some are reasonable, so the belief that heavier is better is a flawed generalisation. Most lightweight chipamps and the newer breed o...
2 Pre-Outs? Drmoles,What you are doing is truly radical.I do know a bloke who uses a pair of Quad 989s along side some Infinity ribbons and active woofers-through different power amps so I guess this is similar. He reckons this just really works well.So maybe ...
Anyone here using vintage speakers? I use a few different speakers. Most modern speakers just sound too slow and smeared to me This seems to be a function of high power handling, rubber surrounds and long excursion cones.Hence the gurrent interest in things like the Zu speakers.I use ...
Speaker for NAD C320BEE The AR.com kit speaker designed by Ed Frias and sold through Madisound is superb.Even if you paid a tech to wire in the crossover these would come in well under $600 and they sound more like $2000 Spendors or Proacs[very coherent and refined].They...
Gainclone chip amp Passive preamps do seem to work unusually well with these chip amps but the combination with a good tube preamp[like the Suprateks] really is pretty special. An adsurd mix of technologies and costs I know, but it is probably,on balance,as good as I ...
Gainclone chip amp My paralelled 4780 will drive low impedence speakers well.Even some 2.5 ohm Equinox speakers. It too has a slight buzz though which the maker put down to some earthing problem in the PCB.It does not really seem related to the preamps used.It can be...
Gainclone chip amp Gmood,Thanks for the info on the Burson HDAM.I will have to get one.Audio Artistry is no longer operating.I did see one of these for sale at Simply Hi Fi[www.simplyhifi.com.au].It needed new batteries though. These were not kits-quite nicely finish...
Gainclone chip amp Gmood,I am also interested in the Burson mods. Can you tell us about your experience with them. They always have bits on Aussie eBay but I already have a very modded Pioneer -although the clock is still standard. Also I have an Audio Artistry battery...
Gainclone chip amp Gmood,I actually bought the SonicArt on Ebay. They are an obscure Aussie company- www.sonicartaudio.com/There is no mention of the 3876T chip amp on their site but you could email them for info.Just last night I dropped off the 4780 amp at a friend...
Gainclone chip amp These chip amps have to be the best value in audio.I have two of these. One is a paralled 4780[100 watts RMS]and the other is a 3876T[56 watts RMS].I actually prefer the sound of the Sonic Art 3876T-it is a bit more expressive and open. These use 44...
Tweeter quest Rather than replace rhe Vifa tweeter you might be better of supplementing it with a ribbon used as a semi-super tweeter.I have found this works very well, especially with the 19mm Vifa tweeters. You can just sit the ribbon on top of the speaker and ... |
