Balanced power compatabilty census
All of my system is plugged into an Equi-tech 2Q and everything loves it. System is very quiet. No ground loops. All grounds referenced off CT of the 2Q. Front end: K&K phono pre (kit), Cary CD-308 (used as transport), RAKK DAC (K&K Audio ...
Ground Loop Problem - Stumped
Have you tried an isolation transformer between your preamp and amp?
How To Match Power Tubes
For matching power tubes, short of a curve tracer, a Maximatcher would be the best and easiest to use. It measures plate current and transconductance at two different plate voltages and has several bias voltages available. At 425V plate, it provid...
Conversion for Orotfon stylus gauge
In the MKS system the Newton is the unit of force. Using Sir Issac's law: F(force)= M(mass)xA(acceleration) a Newton equals a Kilogram x Meter/second squared. A Newton is not 100 grams or a cookie; perhaps cake?
wiring rec. for triplaner upgrade
Doug - apparently VI is the furthest earlier versions can be taken and my friend can't afford a VII. Thom - your advice to ask the maker was exactly what I suggested to him. He's a little insecure and generally needs some "big name" reviewer to gu...

Looking for an incredibly dynamic preamplifier
Dave Davenport's design would fit your bill; if you are willing to get your hands dirty and build one. It's a differential parallel feed design (the bias current and the audio signal share only one devise, a 6N1P triode). It's tranfomer coupled on...
Do small preamp tubes 12ax7 need to be matched?
The only small signal tubes I closely match are ones used as long-tailed phase invertors. Most amps don't have any provision to adjust the AC balance of the driver stage. For that I use a VTV small signal tube tester. It also lets you listen to th...
Question for nottingham hyperspace owners
The Spacedeck now has the "Heavy" option which puts it in league with the Hyperspace weight-wise. The motor is by design low torque, it only has to keep the platter spinning. It won't spin a platter up, heavy or not.
Question for nottingham hyperspace owners
I'll look tonight.
Best phono-pre for mc-systems below $ 1.500,00 ?
K&K Audio phono pre kit: $1500. For the price it would be hard to do better.
Question for nottingham hyperspace owners
I don't know for sure; but I think the major differences between the Hyperspace and the Spacedeck are the bearing and the platter. I own the earlier version of the Hyperspace with the "thinner" platter. The current version sports a much thicker pl...
Phono stage help for Nott Spacedeck/Anna/Dynavectr
Assembly of the K&K is not that bad. If you can solder a PC board, 20 or so hours should do it. If you do decide to build it, high quality solder such as Cardas Eutectic and a temp. controlled soldering iron are highly recommended.
Daisy chaining Line Conditioners
Hi, I have all my equipment plugged into an Equitech 2Q balanced isolation transformer. Between the wall and the 2Q is a PS Audio high current Ultimate Outlet. The UO seems to provide a marginal improvement; so I have left it there. It also provid...
Need help with finding a new phono stage.
If you are comfortable soldering and doing some assembly the K&K Audio phono preamp from Kevin Carter is outstanding. It is very similar to the Art Audio Vinyl Reference that Kevin designed.www.kandkaudio.com
