Capacitor-less amps
Look carefully at the design of all amps that claim "no caps in the signal path" and you will find lurking in the shadows the power supply caps. They are in the "signal path". The only designs that I am aware of where this is not the case are topo...
What happened to Discwasher?
The next time that I run into Bruce Meyer the original founder of Discwasher I'll ask him. Maybe he'll give up the secret formula and you can mix up your own.
Amperex 6922 white labels with counterpoint SA 3
As with ALL tubes to be used in a phono stage, they need to be screened for noise and microphonics. There is no gaurantee that such and such brand will be low noise. There is going to be some variation in every batch of tubes produced. Some manufa...
"only one shot"
If your ever going to get the most out of your LPs it will take an upgrade of your analog front end. I've owned a MMF-9 and it is a nice TT; but if you listen to 90% vinyl, a serious TT and arm is in order. Back in the analog only day I used to re...
Tube Suggestions 6922 4 pathos Classic one
"I have tried mullard/siemans/amperex ect and found the amperex to give the best sonics for MY EARS."AMEN to that. I burn Amperex in my rig.
which power tube sounds better: EL34 or 6550
I have not heard a current production EL34 tube that can even come close to the midrange reproduction of the GEC KT-88s in my amp. Haven't tried NOS EL34s; since I now have a good supply of the GEC KT-88s and Tung Sol 6550s.
tube pre amp to match Sim audio w-3 or w-5
The preamp kit DOES have a remote for the volume control.
tube pre amp to match Sim audio w-3 or w-5
If you are handy with a soldering iron you should check out the "Mood Indigo" kit from Raleigh Audio on www.kandkaudio.com I have built Kevin's phono stage kit which uses some of the same circuit ideas and it's wonderful.

You should look up "Joe's Tube Lore" over on the AudioAsylum FAQ. He's goes into great detail on the 6DJ8 family of tubes. I have found his observations to be reliable. For a warmer sound you could try an early '70s Siemens 7308. They aren't as pr...
time to discuss kt-88's
Issue #19 of Vacuum Tube Valley did comprehensive listening test with current production and NOS KT-88 and 6550 tubes. You should check it out.
K &K Audio Phono Stage Upgrade
It's been more than two months now since I've upgraded mine now and it's gotten even better. David, give yours some more break-in time. Then do your comparing.
Spindle oil
"On top of that, there's no circulation system involved, so flow time isn't a concern." Not so for all TTs. Sean, you haven't considered the bearing design used by Tom Fletcher in his Nott. TTs. This design does 'pump' oil around the bearing sleeve.
RRL Cleaner, Vinyl Zyme, and Groove Glide
Sean, "Anything that isn't neutral (pH) will leave behind some type of residue" There are gases that will disassociate in water and alter it's pH. HCl and NH3 are two that come to mind. The first will give a very low pH, the second will be somewha...
Spindle oil
RE Snake Oil Tom Fletcher of Nottingham Analogue sells a spindle oil for his TTs that he calls "Snake Oil". I've tried it with my Hyperspace and it is actually quite good.
Dynavector Cartridge Load 100ohms or 47k ohms?
One way to do this is to lower the loading resistance until the soundstage collaps. Then go with twice that resistance. In my case with a Shelter 90X that happened at 20ohms. 40ohms sounds about right. 100ohms a little too bright.
