Phono stage for tube system - recommendations? Kevin of K&K Audio has a new, fully balanced differential phono stage in beta form. I have one that replaces my original K&K phono pre (by original, it was the first full kit that Kevin sold). In just about every way that you can imagine (...
Origin Live Arm Rega and Dennesen Soundtracktor I had to set the arm to spindle distance at 222mm to get the correct geometry with a Shelter 9000 (also the 90X). At 223mm I had the same result as you. Fortunately, changing this distance on my Nott. TT was easy. I used a Feikert protractor and L...
VH Audio Symmetry vs Silver Audio Appassionata XLR I just finished building Chris' DIY Silver balanced ICs from the recipe on his web site. They sound better than the Tara Air I's that they replaced. If your system can get away with cabling with no shield these are worthy. It did take over 150 hou...
Can You Live With Crackling & Popping Noise? Excess surface noise can be the result of a MM cartridge loaded with too much capacitance. This capacitance interacts with the cart. inductance resulting in a high frequency resonance (see Jim Hagerman's web site). Ultra-sonic noise can excite thi...
Silver solder--what wattage soldering iron? I use Cardas Quad Eutectic in all my work. It flows and works beautifully and produces great looking solder joints. The newer Cardas solder without lead doesn't seem to work as well. I would try to get the older "Quad" formulation.
Tonearm Upgrade for Spacedeck I'm running a Hyperspace and have been very happy with an OL Illustrious with a Riggle VTAF VTA adjuster. Never had the Nott. arm so can't speak to any differences.
Tube Tuners Modified Fisher 100b (IEC 3-wire power input, HEXFREDs in PS, film bypassed Jensen PIO coupling caps).
Anyone modify the K&K phono stage? Yes and yes. If fact, the circuit topology of the new phono pre is very similar to your Vivo amp. I built mono-block parallel 6550 versions of your Vivo amp and they are awesome. So if you are happy with the Vivo you will also be very happy with t...
Anyone modify the K&K phono stage? This isn't really a "mod" but I am (finally) burning in Kevin's newest creation. I have one of the beta versions of his Sonas Veritas phono stage and it is a dreadnaut, over 37 pounds! Three stage fully differential series feed, transformer couple...
Top line phono stages with at least 2 inputs Kevin Carter of K&K Audio has a new high end design that will sell under the Sonus Veritas name. Look for it in the near future.
I could cry One of my cats recently "modified" the dome tweeter on one of my speakers. It's now an "inverted" tweeter! Fortunately the hit to the wallet wasn't too bad. So the cat's off the hook. Besides I'm a vegetarian so barbeque was never an option.
K&K any comments? Yes I do have the current phono pre. It was the first complete kit Kevin sold way back when. It has all current upgrades.
K&K any comments? Just to stir the waters a little: Kevin has a new phono stage design that is ready for roll out in beta form. Fully differential, 3 stage, series feed (current kit is parallel feed) design with cascode CCSs at the "tail" of each stage and a separa...
Turntable Speed All DC motors for TTs will have by necessity some form of feedback to control their speed. If a TT has a DC motor it will come with a dedicated speed controller. AC motors "synchronise" with the frequency as has been dicussed. That is not the only...
Phono Preamp Suggestions? 38ohms. That is the impedance reflected by the Lundahl MC trannie wired 10:1. I have a 3.8K resistor in parallel with the secondary. Divide that by 10 squared you get 38 ohms. In my set-up the highs were a little too pronounced with less load (42 ... |
