Conrad Johnson ET-3 line stage pre-amp or BAT VK31SE pre-amp?? I would think that you would be better off using a BAT preamp so that you can stay balanced throughout. That said, I am NOT advising you to run out and buy that partially function VK31SE. There are always more choices than just two preamps on the ...
Can headphones ever be as good as high end stereo? btw, jmcgrogan, hope your wife doesn't read your post. Why? We've been married for over 32 years now. Nothing I wrote hasn't been talked about between us. She is well aware that I do most of my listening when she is not around, and she appreciat...

Do they make a quiet great sounding phono pre amp?? +1 almarg! Very well stated Al!I have used cheater plugs a few times to troubleshoot, or narrow down the culprit piece of gear. I would not use them as a permanent fix though.
Who's absorbing the cost? Ultimately, in any commercial venture, the customer absorbs all cost. Just as stores raise their prices to cover shop-lifting, damage costs, transit costs, maintenance costs, etc., ALL costs are passed on to the consumer.

Most compatible speaker/interconnect and power cables with ARC ref system? I would suggest that you contact ARC and get their opinion. I believe I recall that they use Shunyata products at their shows. As for cable/cord believers and non-believers, well, you'll just have to find out for yourself.
Kubala-Sosna Elation Speaker Cables While there are plenty of guidelines on how to set up a system, they are only that, guidelines. I certainly haven't spent that much on speaker cables, though I have looked, and been tempted. I know some fellows who have more money tied up in cable...
Review: Herron Audio VTSP-3A (RO3) Linestage @dodgealum , nice review, congrats! For references sake, you mention: Many of the linestages I had used prior were useful tools for evaluating the rest of the gear in my system. Could you tell me what some of the other line stages were, and how th...
What makes an amp sound more direct ? I'm not sure what you mean by "direct" sounding, could you elaborate? Are you talking about how some amps present a more immediate (forward) sound-stage, while other amps present a more laid back, deeper, sound-stage? Some make you feel like you ar...
Analysis Plus speaker cables I owned a pair of the Solo Crystal 8 for a few weeks. Bought them used, so they should have been burned in.I really liked the tonality, full, vibrant, pretty good extension in both directions. Not the most revealing cables, but for most, that is a...
Atmasphere amps trustable? Tubes are retro of course from the beginning. They're noisy, require LOTS of wall power; generate LOTS of heat(especially OTL ones!) and LOTS of distortion(even considering even order ones) making the playback far from real. Tube components ind...
Recommendation for Improvement over McCormack DNA-225 CODA and Pass Labs are very good SS amps. Clayton Audio also makes very good, smooth SS amps. Hard to find on the used market. You may be able to find a pair of M-100's monoblocks in your price range.
Atmasphere amps trustable? They are totally weird! I even heard that 'Weird Al' Yankovic owns Atmasphere amps!!! |
