Gabriel Gold IC's are they really this good?
JC,Nice summary, I'm glad that you are enjoying your new GG Rapture interconnects. Also, it looks like you have a lovely system, I'm a fan of ARC and Dynaudio. I would suggest that you give up on chasing the digital dream though, and just spin som...
I have bought a VAc CLA-1 preamp
They should be the same sonically, the difference being that the CPA1 is a full function preamp (with phono stage), whereas the CLA1 is a line stage only.Cheers,John
Tubed Pre question?
01-27-09: GrannyringI find it interesting that John says that no "SS amp can stand up to a tube amp".Well, I must admit Bill that I have never heard the TRL Samson monoblocks, so maybe you have discovered the elusive beast. Congrats and enjoy.Chee...
Lean sound. What's the cause?
Any of your choices would help to eliminate the 'leanness' of the MAP1. I have owned the CJ Premier 16LS2, VAC Renassiance mk II, BAT VK-31/50/51SE, but I have not heard a more modern VTL preamp. These are all very different, IMHO, but all would h...
Review: Jade Audio Pure Solid Gold Interconnect
Nice review Sweetmamma31. I have often thought of reviewing JD's cables, but I am a lazy ass who never got around to it. I have never heard his digital cables, but I have heard, and owned, all of his analog cables, Vermeil, Solid Gold, and Hybrid,...
RIP Billy Powell
Billy will be missed, for sure. For those of you that want quick links, here is http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/2009/01/28/lynyrd-skynyrd-keyboardist-billy-powell-dead-at-56/ link that Mofimadness added.Cheers....and God bless Bill...
Lean sound. What's the cause?
My take would be that the McCormack MAP-1 is the culprit. It is a multi-channel preamp, I gave up on multi-channel preamps years ago. I owned some of 'the best', Levinson, Krell, Classe, etc., but I found that I could get a much better sonic perfo...
Which Component Needs to be Upgraded First
I would recommend that you upgrade the source first, the Sony 333es.Cheers,John
Tubed Pre question?
01-27-09: MapmanThere is no right answer but I think tube pre and good SS amp can deliver all the goods in more applications more cost effectively and more reliably over time than can all tubes. All tubes will cost more and have more limited applic...
CD player recommendations under $2K used
Hi Scott,I'll bet that VAC/ ML rig sounds great! I'm a big fan of both. For digital, I'd investigate Reubent's RA Opus 21 reco, sounds like a great deal to me. Another reco would be a Marantz SA-11S1 or if you can find one at your price a SA-11S2,...
Tubed Pre question?
I agree with Tpsonic, all tube is the way to go, assuming your speakers are up to the task. I've used many different combo's in the last 30 years or so, I would say that for the most part I went tube preamp/ SS amp. However, after diving into the ...
Cheap SS phonostage
Check out the Music Hall MMF PA1.2. It is the best inexpensive phono stage that I have heard yet.Cheers,John
Review: Verastarr Grand Illusion Series Power cord
Sherod, Mike also told me that Scott Hall helped develop both the Grand Illusion and the SOTU. He told me that they sounded very similar, but I have not heard the SOTU or any of the Fusion power cords, so I'm afraid I cannot comment there. I have ...
Review: Verastarr Grand Illusion Series Power cord
I guess it's time for me to chime in here with my experiences with the Verastarr Grand Illusion power cord. I bought two of 'em a couple of months ago, and I feel that they have finally settled in. First of all, let me thank Objex for a great revi...
Supporting Local Audio Stores are we?
01-19-09: FerrariFive years is not even a blip on the radar. Been at this since 1957.Ferrari, I believe you have misinterpretted the conversation. I was responding to MrT's query of components that I have owned for over 5 years. I have owned gear ...
