high voltage's affect on amplifier performance Instead of a Variac, which you will constantly have to adjust manually, why not try a voltage stabilizer, or isolation transformer?Maybe something like this would help.Cheers,John

Seeking advice on tube amps I don't know that I necessarily buy all of this 'you must pick the speaker first' talk. I know many who choose the speaker around the amplifier....SET fans for instance. They choose to enjoy the SET sound, then go out and find speakers that cater ...
Gabriel Gold IC's are they really this good? Hey Gary,It looks as if you've been busy lately, new speakers and......what???? JPS Aluminata interconnects have replaced your GG Raptures. I haven't heard the Aluminata's yet, what would you say are the differences between the Rapture and the Alu...
Seeking advice on tube amps It appears that both your current speakers and most of your future choices would call for a push-pull tube amp. No SET or even 300B tube amp would probably drive these speakers in a moderately to large room. That being said, of your two choices, I ...
Visiting with friends and Walker Audio Thanks Rushton for describing your entertaining day, it sounds like fun. I have been to Lloyd's house once, but it has been a couple of years now. He and Felicia were wonderful hosts, and I am quite a fan of his work. Unfortunately, I cannot affor...

Gabriel Gold IC's are they really this good? I hear ya Art, that Karan is a fine unit. If I ever decide to go back to SS that would be first in line. I also admit that the heat of the tubes can be a hassle. I've taken to using as quiet a portable fan as I can find, I've tried about 8 or so s...
Gabriel Gold IC's are they really this good? Hey Art,Good to see your back. I was just reminding those in this thread about you....er....yeah...that's the ticket!I hope all is well with you and yours.....though I do have to admit that I am surprised that you finally put your Stealth Hybrid M...
Unconnected Drain Wires ? I guess I stand corrected. I've seen shielding drain wires on interconnects, mostly phono interconnects, and some speaker cables, but I've never seen a shield drain wire on a power cord. Live and learn. Thanks,John
Why are "low hours" a consideration? Cyclonicman, you have been very fortunate. I would say most of those that I've dealt with on AudiogoN have integrity, but not all. As Bill notes following your post, everyone selling a used phono cartridge has only used it for a few LP's. ;DI'm aw...
arragon 4004 amp?good pre amp-used-400-1000 range. Sean,You should be fine as far as a possible impedence mismatch goes. I believe the 10:1 ratio is really pushing the limits myself, I would recommend at least 25:1 ratio. However the higher the better, and you're looking at a 67:1 ratio, which sho...
I'm a Consumer Reports sort of guy. Is there a pla No. Though you may find a back issue of Consumer Reports that would answer some questions for you. Contact them and ask them.I do agree with Thsalmon though, if you are searching for audio equipment based on repair history and not sonic qualities,...
Why are "low hours" a consideration? And the dog is a lot cleaner than some of the unsavoury characters my kids bring into the house from time to time.Markphd LOL! I certainly can relate to that.03-10-09: CyclonicmanWouldn't you rather buy a car with 25,000 miles on it vs 150,000 mil... |
