Why so many angry audiophiles?
I'm not at all angry!  Oh yeah, I'm not an audiophile.....Correlation.
What did your system look like 30 years ago?
Wow, you people were a heck of a lot better off than I was in 1981 - I was 24, living in my first apartment in Chicago, $385/month, and saving up for law school:Onkyo TX-15 Stereo ReceiverBiamp 12-channel PA Mixer through which all sources were ro...
Music bleeding at zero volume
There was a Partridge Family episode where Chris could hear AM radio through a loose filling in his tooth and it kept throwing off his rhythm and he couldn't drum until they got him to a dentist.
Are there speakers with cloth/soft enclosures instead of wood?
Maggies!
Should I use long interconnects, or long speaker cables?
My one question is how were you able to daisy chain cable and anti-cable without them annihilating each other? This is funny!  Sorry to quote you twice in one day...I'm not stalking.  +1 that balanced interconnects are the solution here.  Given...
So you have a great hi end stereo preamp, but
Its still ruining the sound merely having the thing in the same room. With due respect, I suggest that musical enjoyment is not ruined by an AVR but rather by this type of attitude.Besides, it's pretty easy. There are great preamps with HT bypa...
Next Best Upgrade for Tidal MQA?
Such agendas! You have a listener using an AVR as a preamp asking for the obvious upgrade path and people are suggesting network tweaks, cable upgrades, their favorite DACs. Come on people! The obvious upgrade is a preamp, as the sane posters have...
Audio tax write-off
Have one of your minor children set up a 501(c)(3) charity and purchase the equipment, then lease that equipment.  Elect to be taxed like a C Corp, or better yet set up an S Corp with a management contract for your LLC and pay management fees to t...
Charging A Fee To Demo An Amplifier In A Brick & Mortar Store
(1) The dealer is free to charge whatever he would like.  But customers are also free to vote with their wallets. (2) I view demos as a cost of doing business.  Car dealers have to let people take test drives. As a lawyer, I have to spend at least...
Recommendations for fast sounding cables
I'd like a recommendation for cables that make Johnny Cash sound like Hip-Hop.  Just can't get there.  Point being, I can see cables affecting tone.  But the speed of light is what it is.  The closest you could get would be whatever frequency rang...
Should people with no turntable or reel to reel be considered audiophiles?
Such a bizarre thread on an ever increasingly bizarre forum site. "Audiogon...where people come to fight about audio."Please, if you want to look at the OP's question for just a second, the real question is the definition of "audiophile" not the d...
Tube Preamp with Solid State Amp?
No suggestions on a tube preamp for my CJ mf200?? I’m looking for something with a remote in the $500 used range That's a relatively low budget for decent tube gear unless you are looking small form factor (Pro-Ject boxes) or some of the Chinese...
Tube Preamp with Solid State Amp?
I love how every question is viewed as an invitation for a word-salad description of everyone’s systems: "I’ve been running my Socrates Coriander Maxi-Spinnakers (the XLT with the optional basin reinforcements) with a Blue Trident Axolotl directly...
Why do you think Bi-Wiring improves the sound ?
No,  but it was really obvious, no need, not at all subtle.  I'm not a tweaker or believer in fancy cables, gold plated power connectors, any of that crap.  But bi-amping is a substantially different equipment configuration that is naturally going...
Why do you think Bi-Wiring improves the sound ?
I didn't see any benefit from bi-wiring.  Active bi-amping, on the other hand, with my Magnepans (built to biamp) was a huge jump in sound quality.  Literally, veil lifted off.
