Audiogon is becoming the hub for scammers.
"Let's be careful out there." As a best practice, I always work to engage a seller in a substantive conversation about their gear, audio in general, what have you.  Scammers are not usually capable of holding that conversation in a way that doesn...
How Big of a Difference?
I always love the "your system is not resolving enough" commentary.  Frankly, any reasonably eared person should be able to detect differences on almost any system, resolving or not, IF there is a difference. It's the delta you should be able to d...
Do we really know what "Live" music sounds like?
These posts reveal the bias in Audiogon towards classical and acoustic music.  Now, that is not to attack the style of music nor those who love it, but it does reveal the lack of a baseline that serves as a foundation for much of the discussions o...
How Big of a Difference?
I think you have to allow for both sides having some correctness in their position. In other words, cables can act as mild tone controls - some may sound a little different than others -- but the difference between cables, in terms of the cost rel...
Anybody use a single ended component with one that is balanced?
I think the point is that just using physical/passive jack adapters  - whether dongles or cables -- has the potential to produce suboptimal sound depending on the topology of the units.  It's not always the case but it can be.   Better to use sam...
Anybody use a single ended component with one that is balanced?
Oh OK. Yes, just use the RCA (aka "single-ended") connection from the pre-out to the amp in. Don’t use the XLR outputs on the preamp until you have an amp with XLR inputs. You won’t get optimal sound by just using the jack adapters - or at least t...
Anybody use a single ended component with one that is balanced?
The OP is talking about running the XL output from the pre into the RCA input of the amp.  That will produce sound.  It may not be optimal.   OP should use the RCA outputs on the preamp if it has them.  Or use a Henry Engineering Matchbox or a Ta...
Does anybody make...
I'm not sure how this DIY project works without an active crossover.  Marchand is the right call.  Their X-overs can adjust gain into each channel and pass.
a remarkably basic question about Roon
My take on Roon is that they've developed some features and functions, and combinations thereof, that are unique and it's the best multi-zone music library software available. That said, it is also very buggy and flakey, and the Roon development ...
Magnepan service shut down
Magnepan has always had exemplary service. Can't promise it will be back, but if any company would bring it back, it would be them.  I have needed them many times and they are a very quick response.  Whatever is going on it must be severe, and let...
Music Direct and my recent exoeriences
I think you can actually visit Music Direct, albeit it is not exactly an audio showroom.  They're all really nice there and they have their B stock up including vinyl returns.  At least it was like that at their last location.
Aren't you sorry you missed out on this one? It's already sold out! LOL
I like the look of it.  Would never pay that.
HELP! I bought equipment drunk, don’t know anything.
Can i plug an amp line out into the preamp line in, then run the preamp out back into the poweramp in? Or will that create a blackhole? You certainly should not run an amplified out from your speaker taps on the amp back into a line level input...
Do You Ever Find Yourself Unable to Listen To Your System?
Hi Jay-Yes, certainly, we have all been through periods like this or at least most people have.  I have also found that when I'm physically sick - flu, cold, strep - I do not want to listen to music and when I flip on the stereo habitually that is...
Streamer Advice / Recommendation for Denafrips R2R DAC
Another vote for upgrading the preamp as the weakest link in the chain for 2-channel audio.  The pre-outs are a convenience but the preamp in the AVR is meant for the amps in the AVR and won't match well with anything else.  Nor is it anywhere nea...
