Why Music Has Lost it’s Charms (Article)
I wonder how many people know who Howard Tullman is or even read through the article.  I was on his legal team during the initial JamTV/Tunes.com work.  He's definitely not a small minded guy. He does like to stir the pot. If you read to the bott...
How Audiphiles are Different
Also, this is a glossary from Stereophile Thanks - yes - a number of useful terms. I’ve seen these glossaries. My point was, which I just think is interesting, that many of these are actually metaphors taken from our other senses. Robert Harl...
Analog vs. digital
It may be helpful to clarify what genres of music we are talking about.  I understand the point about realism when trying to recreate sitting at an unamplified piano recital.  I don't understand the point about realism when trying to recreate the...
How Audiphiles are Different
This is a very interesting discussion.  We do hear things differently, and we also value different things.  I value having access to so many different pieces of music and artists and being able to enjoy them in so many different ways - stereo aud...
hearing loss and amp choices
Two things: (1) I think the comments about EQ are right on.  Consider some of the digital EQ you can get from Roon or similar. You don't have to put it through a box with lots of levers if you don't want to. (2) Subwoofers - especially a good RE...
What cable companies make the best cables and sell them directly?
If you use the balanced XLR connections, you can use just well built standard Mogami or similar and not worry about it.  By design balanced XLR removes any noise or coloration within the interconnect.
Why did my amp just crash and burn ?
dont eff with your amp, interconnects or speaker cables while playing Obviously can't argue with this logic, HOWEVER I have found that it isn't a problem to move around balanced XLR interconnects.  Definitely best to turn off the amps before m...
Using Adcom GFA-555s as monoblocks to power magnepan 3.3s in active biamp
i do not use the crossover boxes and changed the jumpers on the back of the speakers.  This is what I do as well. Magnepans are the best for biamping because of the external crossovers. I have a Marchand crossover - or to be precise a custom bu...
What is your record cleaning regimen?
Mostly I blow on the stylus between records.   But I have the Spin-Clean record washing system (Mk II) and found that was pretty easy to use.
Amp's that are better sounding than a nad 3020
Buy used! E-bay and Craigslist can offer a lot of bargains in that price range.
low bass response
+1 on RELs as a good answer. True, the room is also critical, but many of us don’t have choices or simply have different priorities. Subs will help and RELs are fast and tuned for music. Also agree that multiple subs even out the bass response. ...
DAC diminishing returns
I don’t want to be duped into buying something I don’t really need. This is a fascinating statement, in that the OP implies that if it improves the sound then it is a matter of "need."  It's amazing how us audio freaks have extended Need from f...
Why do hipsters prefer analog?
Hey you kids get off my lawn!
cheapest cable upgrade ever
I'm dubious of the effect but I agree with those who defend the suggestion.  Look, it's one thing to make sure noobs don't spend their money buying a $750 dongle that won't do anything, but these DIY tweaks are what the hobby is about - it's not s...
Using Adcom GFA-555s as monoblocks to power magnepan 3.3s in active biamp
Adcom GFA 555 and a Nak PA-7...that's a blast from the past ! They are fun amps.  I do have a number of more modern, beefier amps for the Maggies but I've been doing some swapping as I also added some speakers I wanted to hear with the better/n...
