Sound quality of Roon
One hears the sound of Roon when using Innuos gear vs the Innuos Sense software. Roon sounds different vs Sense on Innuos gear. Obvious and easily heard with a resolving system. My digital front end consists of: Innuos Zenith 3... - Tron Atlanti...
What's going on with the used audio gear market?
The answer is patience. In general, I don’t scour the used market for areas of need, but for opportunities to acquire interesting stuff at a bargain price. Sure, you can focus on amps when you need one, etc., but in general, I have a slush fund b...
Sound quality of Roon
I would suggest that if commenters want to be specific about their Roon experience with SQ, it's necessary to state expressly whether the endpoint DAC is (or is connected to) a separate networked streamer or directly to the core machine. Not that...
Sound quality of Roon
Roon is definitely the best overall.  Yes, quirky and unstable with limited support resources, but no doubt an amazing experience when working properly. the thing is it takes a long time to optimize sound quality with Roon.  And when you benchmar...
Software recommendations
MUST try Roon.  Not that it's more stable, but at least it's worth the trouble. It's a different league from what's be recommended so far.
The greatest tweak ever?
Then I remembered that the HEPA filter was on because we’d smoked a huge blunt! That is the best tweak ever.
Supra Cat 8 Ethernet cable
The only thing you can do with fancy ethernet cables is cause problems. This is packet based communication...they do not have a tone or a sound.  They might theoretically cause (and thus another cable could solve) grounding issues.
Just got a new Bluesound Node. Very disappointed!
Another post in favor of "there's something wrong with the configuration."  While different streamers can have a bit of difference in sound, it shouldn't be as you describe, with something sounding "broken."
Best Sound Track Ever Vote for One
Thank you all for playing. The correct answer is of course Repo Man.  However many of the other guesses are excellent.  In all seriousness, this thread has reminded me of how much movie soundtracks have contributed great music or fit so well with...
Why Music Has Lost it’s Charms (Article)
I wonder how many people know who Howard Tullman is or even read through the article.  I was on his legal team during the initial JamTV/Tunes.com work.  He's definitely not a small minded guy. He does like to stir the pot. If you read to the bott...
How Audiphiles are Different
Also, this is a glossary from Stereophile Thanks - yes - a number of useful terms. I’ve seen these glossaries. My point was, which I just think is interesting, that many of these are actually metaphors taken from our other senses. Robert Harl...
Analog vs. digital
It may be helpful to clarify what genres of music we are talking about.  I understand the point about realism when trying to recreate sitting at an unamplified piano recital.  I don't understand the point about realism when trying to recreate the...
How Audiphiles are Different
This is a very interesting discussion.  We do hear things differently, and we also value different things.  I value having access to so many different pieces of music and artists and being able to enjoy them in so many different ways - stereo aud...
hearing loss and amp choices
Two things: (1) I think the comments about EQ are right on.  Consider some of the digital EQ you can get from Roon or similar. You don't have to put it through a box with lots of levers if you don't want to. (2) Subwoofers - especially a good RE...
What cable companies make the best cables and sell them directly?
If you use the balanced XLR connections, you can use just well built standard Mogami or similar and not worry about it.  By design balanced XLR removes any noise or coloration within the interconnect.
