Turntable/Arm in $1500-2000 Range Seldenr- If you do decide to take a road trip to SA as Soliver suggests, you'd be welcome to come over to my place to check out a Well Tempered Classic. I'm only about 5 miles away from Galen's place.RegardsJim
Strange Tonearm Tweak. Long The arm. I thought that perhaps there would be some significant gains there, but don't know much about it.Thanks
Strange Tonearm Tweak. Long Thanks for the tips, Tom. BTW, the WT is an unsuspended table, so no worries of weight on the string bouncing around. Any ideas on vibration damping?
Strange Tonearm Tweak. Long Tom- Would I be better off hanging a lead weight off the end stub than attaching lead to the bottom of the counterweight on the WT? Thought that lead on the counterweight would also serve to dampen vibration, something that decoupling would not ac...
Strange Tonearm Tweak. Long Basement- I'm not clear on the WT arm tweak you mention of arm wrap on the base- exactly where do you mean? I'm going to try adding lead to the bottom of the counterweight next week. Maybe an ounce (25 grams). Any other WT tweaks you've heard of?T...
Anyone seen the ad for free Mi-Horns? I recall that Mi-Horn was taking it upon themselves to list some prominent audio retailers as Mi-Horn "dealers" to give the product some credibility to the dismay of those retailers. Seems like this is another stunt. BTW- check out "Loanofficer"'s...
"Beginner" audiophile Turntable for $200-$300? Bundee- Seeing how, if it turns out you like analog, you'd probably upgrade immediately, why not jump into a used P3 or one of the better Music Halls (also used)? Either of these would give you a fairly accurate portrail of the analog experience a...
Strange Tonearm Tweak. Long Tom- In your tweek, the effective mass of the arm doesn't change. Doing what I propose on the WT would change the effective mass in the same way as the heavy teardrop counterweight would- correct? If so, would there be any downside? (I suppose tha...
"Beginner" audiophile Turntable for $200-$300? Bundee- I wasn't aware that Rega's ran 1% fast. Mine ran at the correct speed. If a table did run 1% fast, the sound would be pitched ever-so-slightly higher. Better quality arms will improve soundstage, background quietness, dynamics, distortion,...
Strange Tonearm Tweak. Long Tom et al- After considering all that has been brought up on this thread and how I could apply it to a Well Tempered table, I've come up with a simple method that might work, but I'd like thoughts/opinions from the group on it before proceeding. H...
"Beginner" audiophile Turntable for $200-$300? Wes- If your looking for new, the P2, NAD 533 and Moth Alamo are all essentially the same thing and are probably the biggest bang for the buck. Any of them would keep up with your system if/when you upgrade other components. If you should consider...
"Beginner" audiophile Turntable for $200-$300? Wes- I'm in San Antonio just north of the airport. If you're in the area, c'mon over. Jim
"Beginner" audiophile Turntable for $200-$300? Wes- The HW-19 Jr is a fine table. The plinth and motor is probably better than the P3, but most of the arms that were mounted to the Jr were considerably less than the RB-300 found on the P3. On balance, they are about equivalent, IMHO. Upgrading...
"Beginner" audiophile Turntable for $200-$300? Wes- Fear not!! You're system is light years ahead of my first system. Most of us have been where you are. Haven't looked lately, but Kenwood used to be pretty good sounding gear for the dollar- much better than most of the other mass marketed bra...
How to ship albums? The small box from U-Haul is the perfect size and will hold about 110 albums. Ship via USPS and be sure to ask for their "media rate". It'll cost about $1.50 for the box and about $25 to ship a boxful of records.RegardsJim |
