Turntable hum??? Help
I also have a WT which had a pad connection from the cartridge clip to tonearm wire. It looked OK, but poking all four wires behind the cartridge, found the one which was the culprit. Simple re-solder is all that was needed.Good LuckJim
Well Tempered motor
Cadet- Teres is too tall, as I recall, plus you'd need to install the sensor in the plinth (drill a 1/4" hole) and the strobe disc under the platter. OL was the only one with a chance of keeping the original look of the WT. BTW- if you're looking ...
Well Tempered motor
Steve- The OL is much quieter, giving the table a blacker background. Check out the thread "A Simple Test" to hear how much noise is being introduced by your motor. If it is what mine was with the WT motor, you might want to consider the OL as mot...
$500 Cartridge for Well Tempered Classic
All but the least compliant will likely work well. The lower the compliance, the more liquid you'll need in the cup. The Dynavector seems to be the MM weapon of choice lately. If deciding between the Platinum and Sonata, I'd spend a little bit mor...
Well Tempered motor
Cadet- I think they'll do an upgrade to an existing motor for somthing like $300 or $350. This would bring both the motor and "balancing circuit". I went another route entirely and replaced the motor with the Origin Live DC motor for $500. No regr...
Best TT/Arm combo fro $2,000-2,500
'Nott!! Of course, depends on what kind of cartridge you are planning on as well as what kind of music you listen to and what the rest of the system is. Another to consider is a used Well Tempered Reference.Jim
How difficult to set-up a Well Tempered Classic
It's not that tough- just a bit time consuming, especially getting the post arm positioned correctly. The WT protractor has a circle on it to get the overhang close. I snug up the post's set screw just enough to be able to move the post up and dow...
Best auto-lift/shutoff turntables?
Winegasman- Your principle objection to the Teres seemed to be price, not that it didn't have auto shut-off. I intuitively understand your desire for auto lift, but not really sure why you're looking for the shut-off as some extra motor/platter ru...
Designing a Plinth
Ok, I'll plead ignorance- What do the numbers such as 8/4 and 4/4 refer to?Ed- Thanks for the West Penn website.Jim
Designing a Plinth
Smotyka- No, I'm not looking to replicate the WT plinth. THe thought was to do simple straight non-parallel cuts on about a 2" thick piece of wood. Either triangular or a 4-sided piece with the right side being only about 4" deep- just enough to h...
Designing a Plinth
Cadet- I guess Agon's system didn't like the website I refered to in the previous post. Try this- Stanalog dot com.
Designing a Plinth
Thanks, 4yanx. I'll probably go with one of your recommedations. You indicated that there would be a number of pieces to the plinth, but I was thinking that it would only be about two or three pieces glued&screwed together to come up with the ...
Designing a Plinth
4yanx- How does Mesquite compare in hardness/stability to the woods you mentioned? A local guy told me that it's twice as dense as Red Oak. Could probably get a couple of pieces for next to nothing, but wouldn't waste my tome if it's not an excell...
What TT for $1200 used?
Steve- I differentiated between the square and round mainly due to age because the round motor indicated a later model Classic which also came with the black platter and the better arm. (As WT improved the Classic, it became less like the Record P...
What TT for $1200 used?
If the engineering style appeals to you, a later-model Well Tempered Classic (round motor, black platter, later Classic arm) might be the ticket. See their website. If you decide on one, feel free to email me for some set-up and tuning ideas.I'm s...
