How do I bi-wire and bi-amp? Edesilva- I'm not at all familiar with your ML's, but am curious about how you cross over before the signal gets to the amps. If passive, are you able to adjust slope and balance? How do you then run speaker wire separately to the LF and HF driver...
How do I bi-wire and bi-amp? If you want to bi-amp, you'll need an active cross-over and an additional amp. (stereo or a pair of mono's.) Subaruguru's response was for bi-wiring.What speakers do you have?RegardsJim
Here, there a Chick, Where else a Chick Corea ? Don't forget the original 1972 ECM album "Return to Forever", which is far less fusion-oriented. RTF evolved into the band's name with increasing emphasis toward fusion. I was fortunate to see Corea, Clarke, White, Farrell and DeMiola when they di...
Tracking Force - Where to set it? Remember that tracking force dials are notoriously inaccurate. If you used the dial on the arm as your reference for tracking force, try using a separate gauge to get a more accurate idea of the actual tracking force.RegardsJim
Turntable/Cartridge/Phono Stage questions Patrick- It's been a long time, but I think I recall that B&O had a MC in their line-up. It might have been a high output cartridge- not sure. GW- If B&O did make their MC's as high-output, it is almost certain that it will be compatible w...
Turntable/Cartridge/Phono Stage questions GW- Oh, I just remembered- I think MMC stood for "Moving Magnet Cartridge" and MCC stood for "Moving Coil Cartridge". Jim
Turntable/Cartridge/Phono Stage questions GW- Yes, a phono pre is needed for MM carts, too. Rotel has a nice basic phono pre for $200 new and around $100 to $125 used. Since this is just to get started, anything in that price range would be about the same. Some have written in about two R...
Cleaning vinyl - am I using this thing right??? Dekay- A little more info on Groovmaster, please. Are they still being made and, if so, who carries it? I don't care to use eBay, so purchasing one there is not a good option.
Sub Crossover vs. External Crossover Detlof comments reminded me that, if your pre has two sets of outputs, use one for the main speakers (full spectrum) and the other for the sub. A passive x-over/filter in the sub will filter out the mids and highs while you retain full frequency w...
Sub Crossover vs. External Crossover Assuming that the sub has a passive x-over and the external x-over is active, the active x-over would likely be better. Try the sub's x-over first and, if you don't like it, go for the active.RegardsJim
Corporate Interests out to KILL Analog FM Hey, Nanderson- Does WIBA still exist? They used to do some pretty wild sets of music 20 to 30 years ago- everything from Ella to Talking Heads. I went to UW-W and had the tuner pegged to that station just about full time. If you are a REAL old-ti...
What music is not derivative? One can be derivative yet original. Early Chicago is clearly rock/jazz, but the complexities of orchestrations and arrangements were highly original, but vey derivative.Agreed that early Beatles weren't original (straight forward rock-n-roll), but...
Rookie questions - toneam and cartridge RLW- I don't see where you could go terribly wrong with the Platinum except that Grados sometimes hum on certain tables so you'd need to determine if that might be the case with the type of table you have. Ask around but don't get all wrapped arou...
Need to replace a Benz glider series 1 HELP The Shelter 901 might be substantially better than the 501 for a couple hundred more, or so I've heard. Maybe TWL could shed some light on this.Ben- I, too, am surprised that you found the Benz a little lean. Most find Benz skewed strongly toward ...
Rookie questions - toneam and cartridge RLW- I think there is a way to hook up the phono directly to the amp and have volume control as you have done with your CDP. This may be a function of certain types of phono stages and might be somewhat expensive. I think there is also a simple sw... |
