Rookie questions - toneam and cartridge
RLW- If you are happy with your pre-amp and just need a phono pre-amp, the $30 phono pre from Rat Shack will do for now. There are also some other entry level phono pre's from $100 to $300 on the used market. After you decide what you are going to...
Rega Planer 3 Center hub and bearing issue???
Yes, indeedy, it does need the ball bearing!! Actually, without the ball, I would have thought that the underside of the platter would contact the motor pulley. Maybe that was part of the problem, too.Faust- You may still get some use out of the b...
Rookie questions - toneam and cartridge
Welcome to analog, RLW. You are probably going to want to stick with MM cartridges for now as there aren't many low price point MC's that are worth fooling with. (Possible exception is the DL-103, but then you'd still need a high gain phono pre.) ...
Rega Planer 3 Center hub and bearing issue???
With the belt removed and the platter in place, does the platter spin freely or does it bind? If it spins freely, the problem is probably with the belt, which is to say that the belt is stretched and/or contaminated. Measure the belt. If it measur...
Rega Planer 3 Center hub and bearing issue???
Are you sure that there is no contaminants on either the pulley or the hub? Wipe both thoroughly with alcohol on a clean cotton cloth and also wipe the belt.Jim
Time for a new turntable......
TWL- Good post, especially for those who are considering moving into this quality level. But don't fret- you don't at all sound like you are trying to defend the Teres. RegardsJim
Moving coil cartridge advice needed
If you are considering the Benz line, I'd recomend going at least a step up from the Glider. It's very good in it's price range, but the next step up is significantly better and the table would certainly be able to take full advantage. The top of ...
Whats a good high quality 78 speed table????
Rega makes a 78 version of the P2/P3. Or, perhaps you could simply change the pulley on a regular P2 or P3, but I don't know for sure. I recall a few threads on this topic a while back- check the archives.Regarding transient noise reduction, Burwe...
Need Maggie MG-2C help....
With all respect to the previous post, Maggies are notoriously inefficient and, the larger the surface area, the more energy it will take to drive them. There is no direct relationship between speaker impedence and it's efficiency. If there were, ...
How long of a wait
I'll echo the other responses and note that alot of folks take a business trip and need to wait to get emails when they get back home. Others may simply be on vacation or a long weekend somewhere. RegardsJim
Need Maggie MG-2C help....
You need more power. The Counterpoint SA-100 is 100 wpc @ 8 ohms and is not quite enough. Try the SA-20 or SA-220. That should fix most of your problem. You could also change jumpers, if possible. A powered sub w/active x-over is another option, t...
Can someone recommend a few Joni Michell albums?
I second "Court and Spark". It's one of my all-time favorites. "Hissing of Summer Lawns" sounds about the same, but not quite as good.RegardsJim
Ideas for shipping vinyl??
The small size box from Uhaul, Public Storage, Ryder, etc are sized for records and are approx 13x13x16 and cost about $2. Will hold about 110 to 120 LPs and weigh about 65 pounds when full. USPS has a "Media Rate" for up to 70 pounds which will c...
How to find vinyl?

Speaker Placement
Thanks, guys. I am just looking for a starting point so I don't have to chase my tail for a few hours.Cardas'formula doesn't take into account a sloped ceiling, so, it's not clear what ceiling height to plug into the equation. But, melding everyon...
