General Initial Impressions--Genalex Gold Lion KT88 Reissue @samzx12 Great question-- Can you please tell me what were your initial impressions of the GL KT88 and what didn't you like about the stock EL PL EL34? I found replacement reissue Mullard EL34s to be better than the PL EL 34s. I was really impr...
Why no tube loaner/testdrives--It's hard being an audiophile @jafant ,I agree. I'm only complaining--tongue in cheek. Can I imagine what the cost of stuff would be if golf were my hobby? You're right...this is reasonable. It's just tough to try tubes and think they are ok, but be stuck with them after th...
Which preamp tubes in my amp make the most difference when rolling? @wolf_garcia ,you have the best posts on here. You never fail to make me laugh and you always share a helpful nugget. Thank you!!
Why no tube loaner/testdrives--It's hard being an audiophile @riley804 , You sound smarter than me with such foresight. Glad you took the time to tell me this.
What do you know and how do you like the RCA 5963 Black Plates? I think these tubes sound fantastic, especially for the price. Good ol' made in the USA 50s product. They have just a nice touch of air on the top end with great imaging and palpable soundstage. I'm a bit surprised as all of the European made N...
Why no tube loaner/testdrives--It's hard being an audiophile Keep these coming. Great laughs and reality check!,
When and how did you, if at all, realize vinyl is better? @jollytinker "I haven't spent more money on the digital side of the system because I just don't believe it will change the sound significantly enough to justify the outlay."This is where I am at too. I have an NAD Masters M51 DAC (Stereophile tho...

My first tube roll in a Primaluna Dialogue HP Integrated Update on the rolling of Amperex 12AU7 Mullard, Blackburn, Lancashire factory tubes (orange world, mid 70s vintage):I've got a good 12-15 hours on the tubes now. The high end is more extended than the Primaluna 12AU7s and it is certainly clearer....
My first tube roll in a Primaluna Dialogue HP Integrated @rotarius ,It's interesting to me you said that. I'm a guy who likes to learn for himself so I had a thought similar, very similar to this. I bought NOS Amperex, Ciftie, and used tube pull Baldwin brand tubes. Here's a photo of the Baldwin:http...
My first tube roll in a Primaluna Dialogue HP Integrated I'm about 2-3 hours in and bass is more prominent and they sound less bright. The detail and soundstage is great. I'm going to let them burn in for 15-20 hours before I critically review them. Thanks for the background and advice.
Tube Help--I'm trying to make sense of the codes on this tube. @tomcy6 , if you lived near me I'd buy you a beer or a coffee! Thank you again. That is great information. I'm just running them in now. Very interesting difference as compared to the Chinese EL34s I had in before these.
My first tube roll in a Primaluna Dialogue HP Integrated One more thing--The Amperex do not show as great of a sound difference when I switch between triode and ultralinear settings. Not a good or a bad thing...just a thing.
Tube Help--I'm trying to make sense of the codes on this tube. @tomcy6 Your explanation was spot on. I cannot thank you enough. This is my first experience tube rolling. I really appreciate the education.
Tube Help--I'm trying to make sense of the codes on this tube. @tomcy6 , THANK YOU! Great deciphering of the codes!I hope these sound good! I wonder if quality dropped in the 70s due to the increasing popularity of solid state. |
