How can it be that some old recordings sound sublime?
I think we can all agree that it's a shame.  I want to go back to some of my favorite modern recordings (I'll define that as those made north of 1990) to see if any compete with the one from the original post.  For instance, I always believed Clap...

If ScottW is correct, his post makes this all the more intriguing because a student recorded this live work! And yes, I'm talking about Waltz for Debbie. I must've been tired when I posted. Nonetheless, it is one of the best live recordings ever.
Is HDtracks better than Tidal? Do I need to do something with settings?
Thanks Everest.  Yes, I am very happy with the Node 2.  Strangely, I haven't tested the Node 2's own internal DAC. I've just been using it by toslink to feed my Creek Ruby DAC and it sounds amazing.  I may play around a bit. It seems, though, that...

Wadav,My sweet spot is fair--not overly tight.  If I have the speakers back toward the wall (regular listening and dancing with my daughter) they fill the room with sound and are pleasurable throughout.  For critical listening, I pull them out int...
Should I buy a phono-pre or Creek phono board?
Yes, I have the tuner too.  It's superb.  The Creek Evolution 100A is a gem.  Just awesome.
Should I buy a phono-pre or Creek phono board?
@scottwhit Yes, I bought it in December 2015.  It sounds superb.  I've been very impressed with it. I have not A-B'd it against anything directly, but I like what I hear for sure.  So simple, direct design.  Well worth $200, especially since there...

About 70 days later and at least 150 hours on the PSBs now...These are truly a great loudspeaker.  The bass is taught, powerful and has slam.  The imaging and soundstage are fantastic.  I'd imagine that one would need to spend $10k to match or bes...

Lowrider, I'm probably at 50 hours or so on break in. I'm not using spikes or footers. What do you suggest?
