Equipment Rack - How important in the grand scheme of things? @millercarbon - didn't see your response before posting. I do need a rack since I have limited space for my gear and it has to be organized vertically for the space I have available (other than the power amps). Anyone with experience with the Soli...
Equipment Rack - How important in the grand scheme of things? My room is well treated with tube traps (in the front corners) and many GIK panels - bass trap/diffusors along the front wall, art panel absorbers with scatter plates at first reflection points, 242 panels on the ceiling. I'm pretty happy with the...
Digital Coax Cable - Does the Length Make a Difference @kijanki - you beat me to the punch. :).
Digital Coax Cable - Does the Length Make a Difference Digital cables have signals with very fast rise and fall times. In order to reduce reflections from interfering with the signal transmission, they are spec'ed with a fixed impedance (75 ohms in the case of S/PDIF) driving a load with the same impe...
Tekton Double Impacts @hiendmmoe - I also have to disagree with your basic premise. I have not heard these speakers myself, but I'm not willing to dismiss them based on the cost of the drivers. While I agree that, in most cases, a higher priced driver is likely to have...
DENAFRIPS DAC ---- Owner Impressions, Feedback, General Discussion, Questions and more.... I have noticed more dropouts with tidal in the past few weeks. I suspect, with so many people sheltering at home, that their servers are much more heavily loaded than normal. Have you noticed dropouts from local content instead of streaming?
Oscilloscopes - what specs to look for? I didn't spend any time looking at the Uni-T, but did consider the Rigol and Siglent. Both are a great value. Keep in mind that with these lower priced scopes (including the SDS1204X-E that I bought), you can only use the full bandwidth if you are...
Oscilloscopes - what specs to look for? Noise and bandwidth are directly linked in most modern scopes. The higher bandwidth ADCs will also have more dynamic range when used at lower sample rates. This is probably the biggest price differentiator as well, as the cost of the ADC is usuall...
For efficient speakers, how much difference does an amp really make? My take - the more efficient the speaker, the more the balance shifts toward quality from quantity when it comes to amplifiers. For a given budget, any amp designer is going to have trade-offs between power and finesse. There are obviously going t...
Roon Nucleus as Network Player I'm using Roon ROCK running on a NUC8 i7 (essentially the same as a Nucleus Plus) but just as a server - streaming through a Bryston BDP-2 with AES connection to my DAC. I'm curious to hear how well the Nucleus works streaming directly over USB. M...
Understanding DAC's I would also disagree because the number of recordings available in DSD is pitifully small. I have a small number of DSD recordings, but it's probably less than 0.1% of my collection. The SQ of the DAC playing Redbook is BY FAR the most important ...
Yggdrasil - what next? Thanks for the responses so far. I don't think the Ayre QB-9 Twenty is available any longer. I heard the QB-9 DSD and thought it was a good value, but not an improvement over the Yggy for me. There is a local Ayre dealer, so I will stop by once we...
New purchase Bryston bdp 2 +1 on BDP-2. Good value as used streamer. Great sounding using AES/EBU. Only downside is it doesn’t have USB out to dac so if this is what your DAC needs, you’ll have to look elsewhere.
What would you say is THE MOST important factor to good imaging? Speaker placement, but you have to have a room that allows a good placement. While I've been able to achieve excellent horizontal image placement and a very wide sound stage in a small room, getting great depth has, for me, required that speakers ...
Parasound JC-1 - How old is too old? I've owned the JC-5 for about five months now. Very nice sounding and way more power than I need with my efficient speakers. I had a chance to listen to the JC-5 and an older pair of JC-1s on the same system. I thought they had a very similar soni... |
