Need insight on these amps
I owned the FPB-300 for about 20 years. I thought it was one of the better amps that Krell had produced SQ-wise, at least with the right system combination. But it does suffer from long term reliability problems. After about 13 years, I started to...
Best Decora AC Receptacle
Anyone have a recommendation?Thanks, Jay
Looking for suggestions
Budget? Is this a dedicated listening room? Do you have room to pull the speakers out from the front wall? Dipole speakers (such as planars and open-baffle speakers) should be 3ft or more from the front-wall to sound their best, while traditional ...
Subwoofers and Phase Question For You Sub Experts
You should also consider the Rythmik subs. These have one of the best servo control systems on the market and are reasonably priced. The servo control amps include a variable phase control which makes it easier (using REW and a calibrated mike) to...
How good can it get, really? - my stereo sounds amazing!
I don't think I've seen any mention of acoustic treatments. Is your room "tuned" at all? Perhaps look at some "art panels" (artwork over acoustic panels) at the first reflection points if possible, or some bass traps in the front corners. I gather...

Of course, we can all appreciate the desire to "change it up", without knowing what you have currently, it's impossible to give you any suggestions.
Why did Parasound discontinue the Halo JC-1 monoblock amplifiers?
I'd agree with that. I think the JC-5 is a great sounding amp for the price if you've got moderately efficient speakers (85db/w or better). If you really need more than it can deliver as a stereo amp, best find something else or wait for the JC-1 ...
What is the most FUN pair of speakers you've ever had and why?
Had a pair of ESS AMT-1B speakers back in college 40+ years ago. These rocked. Probably has something to do with the tinnitus I suffer from now.
Why did Parasound discontinue the Halo JC-1 monoblock amplifiers?
I auditioned both the JC-1 and JC-5 and thought the JC-5 sounded better. Both are great amps, and the JC-1 certainly has more current reserves, but the JC-5 is a powerful amp and, imo, adds a bit more clarity and vocals sound a bit more natural.@m...
Point of diminishing return for a DAC
Performance/dollar is, in general, a logarithmic curve, meaning doubling the cost is not going to double the performance. So there is an argument to be made that anything more than a $20 USB DAC is diminishing returns. But I think what the OP is a...
Forever speakers around $5000
For good sound and great styling, I'd take a look at Salk speakers.
Need some guidance with music server and cd ripping.
+1 re dbpoweramp. Excellent program that's easy too use. I'm also a fan of Roon and use BlueSound Node 2i units in my secondary music systems.
Speaker Placement and Room Treatment - Feedback wanted.
The open baffle mids and highs will benefit from diffusion on the front-wall behind the speakers. But as millercarbon states, you're going to have issues with room modes in the bass (particularly around 35Hz and 70Hz). Whether these modes will cau...
GR Research NX-Otica and Servo OB Subs
@brewmasterdon - You and Jay do great work! I was really impressed with the quality of the flat packs and how easy they went together. I'm watching Danny's development of the Line Force with some interest. My wife would not be happy if I built ano...
Considering an upgrade
@nekoaudio - I don't have much experience auditioning different DACs. I've heard a few other systems, but the only DACs I've had extensive time with in the past ten years is the Levinson No 39, W4S DAC-2, and my Yggy. I had owned the No 39 since t...
