Build or buy, speaker options
If you are at all considering DIY, I'd highly recommend watching the series of Youtube videos that Danny Ritchie from GR Research has put together. Tons of great information on what makes a good speaker and a lot of useful practical information ab...
Best DAC for around $2,500 or less
The last three DACs I have had are the Wyred 4 Sound DAC 2, Yggdrasil Analog 2, and now the Denafrips Terminator. Each was a nice step up for me, particularly going from the W4S to the Yggy. I tend to like a somewhat forward, detailed sound with p...
Price Trends for Streamers?
Google Chromecast Audio offered basic streaming support for $35, but didn't sell enough of them to justify keeping the product around. Most people that want this level of performance are satisfied with (and would prefer) built in streaming support...
Node 2i use with external DAC
@jetter - there's something to be said for that. It's a damn good product for the money, and you have to spend considerably more to better it by a noticeable amount.
Node 2i use with external DAC
Plus the fact that the Yggy is looking for balance in/out which the Node 2i doesn’t offer (Or am I misunderstanding) The Gumby and Yggy support balanced outputs but they also have single ended outputs. They both have USB, SPDIF and optical inpu...
Uptone EtherRegen
I bought one used and when I installed it I did not notice an obvious difference right off the bat. But I have to say my system is sounding better than ever. I think the improvements are subtle, but everything adds up. I'm not getting rid of it.
DENAFRIPS DAC ---- Owner Impressions, Feedback, General Discussion, Questions and more....
I switched from an Yggdrasil Analog 2 and right out of the box, the Terminator had more authority in the bass, particularly the mid/upper bass. The mid-range and high end was a little rough at first but continued to get better as it broke in.  I'v...
Bluesound Node 2 vs. Node 2i
I don't have the original version to test, but I will say that, as a streamer, the Node 2i is a tremendous value. My primary streamer is a Bryston BDP-2 with upgraded audio card (essentially the same as the BDP-3 with a bit less CPU performance). ...
Node 2i use with external DAC
Gumby and Yggy would be a nice upgrade with the Node 2i. I used the Yggy for a while with the Node2i. Also consider one of the Denafrips DACs. These are also an excellent value. I'm currently using the Terminator which is a definite step up from t...
Schiit just got real...
Yes, The BDP-2 is Linux based. I didn't think you could output from USB. I use AES3 on my BDP-2.
Roon Upsampling - DSD vs. PCM
@erik_squires - I'm using Roon to do the power of 2 upsampling, and then letting the DAC do whatever oversampling it wants after that.
Roon Upsampling - DSD vs. PCM
My favorite is to use the max power of 2 upsampling with the precise - minimum phase filter. I'm feeding a Denafrips Terminator with oversampling enabled (NOS off). For standard 44.1Khz source material, this upsamples to 176.4Khz.
Diminishing Returns
@bdp24 +1. GR Research has a lot of designs that aren't on their website. Send Danny Ritchie an email or give him a call to discuss what you are looking for. Or spend some time perusing the GR-Research forum on Audio Circle. From a few hundred dol...
DENAFRIPS DAC ---- Owner Impressions, Feedback, General Discussion, Questions and more....
@luisma31 - yes, I agree that having a good DSD section along with the excellent R2R PCM functionality makes the Terminator an excellent "complete" solution no matter your content type. While I have very little DSD content in my own collection so ...

+1 @erik_squires . I was thinking the same thing. But it's his ears and his money. If he likes the sound better that way, that's his choice.
