Tom Waitts Where do I begin?
Nicko - I can't remember who said it, though I'm sure it wasn't Waits....I think maybe it was Gary Null....."....critics and lawyers are just two steps beneath snail dung...." Now I'll probably get my ass flamed by all the lawyers and critics on t...
Changing EL-34's to 6550 or Kt-88's
I can't address your amp specifically as I have no experience with CJ, but my Quicksilver Mini Mono's can take all the tubes you mention and are auto-biasing. As a broad generalization you can count on getting a bit more UMPH in the low end with K...
Tom Waitts Where do I begin?
Excellent recommendation Smokester! "Temptation" is a fantastic album, both in performance and acoustics (great soundstaging on that one). John Hammond Jr.'s album "Wicked Grin" is also an excellent collection of Waits covers.Marco
Tom Waitts Where do I begin?
You can begin with spelling his name correctly...just one 't' in 'Waits" I'm a big Tom Waits fan from way back. I think there is another thread on this that I contributed to....just a minute, let me check. Ah, found it. Check hereMarco
Homage to Quicksilver Audio
I'm a big fan of Mike Sander's products. I've owned four different pairs of his amps and currently still have two of them (Mini-Mites and Prototype 300B SET's of which he only produced three pairs - see my system page). All have been fabulous perf...
speaker placement..
Nothing that a sawzall, demolition bar, sledgehammer and shopvac can't cure! Unless it's a structural arch....then try plan B.Alternatively my guess is that you should be able to wrap the collum in either an acoustical absorption or difusion mater...
The Klipschorn
Hey Mike - I've paired off my Mini-Mites with my vintage Heresy's from the late 70's (metal horns and K55V/K77M drivers). Dynamat on the inside, same on the horn bodies, 3/4 MDF back (replaced the stock back and terminals), window caulking around ...
The Klipschorn
Mootsdude gives an inexpensive formula for audio Nirvana. Klipsch + George Wright or Mike Sanders' gear in a good room = Heaven! Absolutely agree with two recommendations (s)he(?) gives. Sanders for Push/Pull and Wright for SET. Too bad Sanders do...
The Klipschorn
Absolutely love the Klipsch Heritage series, especially the Khorns and LaScala's, the latter of which I've had much more experience with. Have not heard the newer versions of the Heritage speakers, but certainly improved wiring is a plus. I think ...
What qualities do you look for in a good amp?
A nice, thick brushed metal faceplate with deeply engraved logo, and some really slick blue lights and LED's....oh, and those big, gnarly gold-plated terminals out back.....yeah, and those analogue meters to let you know how much g-force they're p...
You used to love it but now.......................
Back in the 80's I was into the whole chipmunk macrobiotic diet and the accompanying new-age theme-songs that went along with it, complete with a heaping helpin' of the likes of Enya, Lorenna Mckennit, and the whole Windham Hill/Private Music gang...
Pass Aleph 1.2 monos- do they have any 'soul'?
Haven't heard the 1.2's but owned an Aleph 5 for a while. All the above comments would reflect my observations of the 5 as well. It got very hot and sounded best when it was left on for 2-3 days of warmup. Nice sound for SS, but not SS sounding no...
Anyone still do insightful or intelligent lyrics?
Excellent point Marakanetz!! That's one I wish I'd articulated myself. That's one of the things I enjoy about the "Bright Eyes" disc I mentioned. It also brings to mind a whole different category of "intelligent" use of lyrics: This could be exemp...
Anyone still do insightful or intelligent lyrics?
I'm a big fan of lyrics. I don't know about qualifying that with the word "intelligent" as there are some really silly lyrics I enjoy.....I guess those are also really witty as well, so "intelligence" does come into play there. In no particular or...
