CAIN ABBY OWNERS - AMP ADVICE PLEASE
Well "punchy" mids ain't really the forte of 2a3's SET amps. They definitely do midrange like no other amps, but I would never call them punchy. Delicate, natural, airy, presence...all those words come to mind when I think of 2A3 mids. I don't thi...
Integrated amp up grade?
Warren - There's a Mastersound Dealer listed on A'gon here. Usual disclaimers. Marco
Any suggestions for good obscure music?
Timrhu - Along with the interesting input you're getting here, you may also want to check out Pandora, which not only will suggest songs based upon your input, but will play them in their entirety. You'll get some good input there too. Also, I bas...
Any suggestions for good obscure music?
Greg Brown is a current favorite of mine as well. What a great voice. Hmmm, obscure...guess I'd have to know your tastes to know which direction to go other than recommending others who might sound like Greg Brown. In that vein try Jeffrey Focault...
Listening out of the Sweet Spot - What Works?
whether a person mostly listens actively or passively can dramatically change which system setup, and which component options, will in fact best fit the individual's goal.Exactly! I do wonder; out of the membership here, just how many folks spend ...
Listening out of the Sweet Spot - What Works?
but nirvana comes from just digging your stuff and the way it sounds, and most of all, collecting the music that best defines who you are....Well said. Thanks for that reminder as it is easy to loose track of when you are so focused on the empty ...

Ricki Lee Jones, "Pop Pop" is quite goodI seem to recall back in the 80's constantly hearing Dire Straits, "Brothers in Arms" as a demo disc at stereo shops. I think it was more of a wow-factor kind of thing, as is Pink Floyd's The Wall. I find th...
Best sonics/music on CD
Fair enough Warren. I hear you, but don't necessarily have the same experience (obviously)...whatever will be, will be... I tried a few other Holly Cole CD's and could not connect with any of them as I did with this one. Nor did any of the others ...
Best sonics/music on CD
Marco, I love Temptation by Holly Cole, but the recording just doesn't hold up with time: sound wise. Not audiophile level for these ears, but the music reins, no matter.... :) One word for you my friend: Q-Tips...or is that two words? Jeez Warren,...

Thinking about selling my CD collection = MP3
Were you permitted conjugals with your hard drive? All's I know is I've had one go down on me, and nothing else feels quite like it.....and that's why they call them "gagabytes"Marco
Thinking about selling my CD collection = MP3
I did something like what you are suggesting, but I did keep most of my collection in case of failure. I burned to two separate hard drives and backed up additionally on DVD's. The latter is a bit of a PITA, but makes for added piece of mind. Yeah...
Ipod to Digital Out
I seem to recall a review in either Stereophile or TAS where they put three iPod mini-systems through the paces and the iDeck was one of them. I could swear they cited the same specification and that it succeeded because it used its very own (supe...
Speakers for large open room
Loveswhatkindofmusic? Budget? Rest of system? For my own tastes vintage Klipsch LaScalas or Khorns (if you have the corners) make me very happy paired off with the right amp(s). LaScalas worked brilliantly for me with 8 watts of SET in my studio wh...
What should be the first component when upgrading?
I don't know that I am steadfast in that sense, because overall I think 'balance'in the chain, though if pressed I'd say source. The reason for the source-first camp is the old adage; garbage in = garbage out. If you start with garbage as the sour...
