Tube amp for rock? Newb Questions I withdraw my suggestion.Jax2, Boa2 and Undertow have all been around this block, and they know what they're talking about.I thought yours was a good point as well Grant. If I were to point to any tube amps for Rock I'd think about a KT88 amp in P...
Unison Unico SE noise Sounds like the preamp tube may have gone bad (staticky crackily noise would indicate a tube problem). If you have access to a tester, try testing it. If not, you may want to just replace it and see if that solves the problem. Marco
Ipod to Digital Out and it does appear like the Monitor Audio unit takes digital out of the ipod.I don't know; I seem to recall that Vinnie was very skeptical as to how they might achieve that, and why more companies do not do the same thing. You might write to him i...
Tube amp for rock? Newb Questions IMO you'll get more bang for the buck swapping out your front-end (CD Player), and or speakers first (there is currently a thread on this subject with associated hot debates (which I won't revisit)here. That said, if you are listening to 80% rock ...
Ipod to Digital Out Hey Peter - According to Vinnie at Red Wine Audio there is no SPDIF tap within the iPod. I asked him this same question at someone elses suggestion when I started a similar thread. He does some kind of modifications to the line stage of the ipod. ...
turntable stand, steel, aluminum, shelves of ? I just happen to own an isolation table that would seem to resemble what you are describing. I used to use it for my own front end and it did a fine job, but I can't say I did any critical comparisons to back up that impression. Regardless, mine i...
What should be the first component when upgrading? Absolutely...front end first. There's nothing wrong with running a hard-drive based system though, so your Powerbook is a good start if you already have your library on iTunes (forget about the iPod as you'll be limited to the internal DAC there a...
what is good sound ? 9 out of 10 dentists agree; music that's free from error is a critical part of good aural hygiene. When considering two speakers, always ask a dentist. Marco
what are your most favored recordings ? El Cant Del Sibil La / Jordi Savall & Montserrat Figueras (oh my god, that voice! recorded in a church and really captures that environment)Le Pas du Chat Noir / Anouar Brahem (Haunting. Inovative. I never tire of it)Swordfishtrombone / Tom Wa...
what is good sound ? It doesn't take an expert, or a seasoned concert goer, or an audiophile who changes their amp as frequently as their underpants to be able to judge a stereo system. The convincing illusion of a musical sound, or a human voice does not require some...
what is good sound ? The problem I have with the idea of this question is in the title. The word "good" implies there is a human being making a judgement based on whatever the heck it is you guys decide is appropriate, for instance ('good" and 'bad' do not exist in na...
Sugden A21 AP or Pass Labs Aleph 30? I got an ELS3 for my in-laws non-audiophile system, but also tried it on my own. It's an OK speaker for the money, but I think you can do better on the used market. A pair of Soliloquy SAT 5's would be a better choice IMO for just a bit more money...
what is good sound ? for me, the closer i get to the sound of an instrument in a live setting, the happier i am.Then spend more time listening to live music. You're subject is the reproduction of that music by an artificial means. First off, what music sounds like in ...
what is good sound ? It is most certainly all subjective. The idea of "High-Fidelity", or being 'true' to some objective concept of what the music is "supposed" to sound like is both absurd and contrary to what the enjoyment of music, or any art form, is all about. Mo...
your most memorable component Quicksilver 300B SET prototype mono amps - I'd never known that kind of seductive presence, and dimension where the music becomes almost tactile. Marco |
