AC cord for Manley Chinook... So the OP believes that there is some bad electricity getting past the Pangea into the Chinook? Really! Inquiring minds want to know how this is possible!
High Performance Moving Iron Cartridge Candidates? I have a Dynavector 10B high output mc cartridge. I think it sounds better - more "lively" - than moving iron cartridges like Grado or Nagaoka.
Vinyl playback - lack of bass? Bass on LP's is often summed to avoid cartridge tracking problems. Witness the early pressings of Led Zeppelin II where Bob Ludwig had to re-cut the lacquers. Cheap cartridges couldn't track the bass modulations.
Freight Movers? I had the US Postal Service move a pair of Snell Type A's from Connecticut to Florida where I live. Each speaker weighs about 100 lbs and is two modules - a bass and a mid/tweeter module. So four large boxes of about 50 lbs each. The seller did a ...
Need advice from the gurus. Go to ASR and read the test report on the LRS+ speakers. It is an eye-opener!
Need advice from the gurus. So ChatGPT falls for the typical audiophile BS about DAC's. More "midrange texture"from a ladder-type DAC. So how do you measure "midrange texture"? Enquiring minds want to know!
Fosi Audio ZA3 - my perspective (review) If the ZA3 cost 10X its $149 price it would have a lot more audiophile cred. Price = sound quality is the dominant paradigm in today's audio scene. That's why companies can sell six-figure speakers.
What stylus do Shure V15 users prefer? @billpete : I have a NIB Shure V15 mk5 micro ridge, along with a new SAS stylus. I put it away for possible future resale. Definitely a classic cartridge though I prefer moving coils.
What stylus do Shure V15 users prefer? You may have to go to a re-tipper like VAS to get a line-contact diamond installed on the original cantilever. That should perform about the same as the micro-ridge. It is important to retain the original cantilever and magnet on the end.
Koetsu cartridges. They must be something special. @lewm : Guitar pickups and strings determine the sound of an electric guitar. The body material/shape have no affect. The magnet material and number of coil windings is where the "magic" resides.
Koetsu cartridges. They must be something special. I was aware of Koetsu in 1978 through The Audio Critic, who tested one. It was the world's first cartridge to sell for - gasp! - $1000. Peter Aczel said it was the best he'd ever heard. Don't give me that bullsh*t about inflation making that $1K K...
Back in the vinyl saddle again. Get a new cartridge. A Hana SL would be a very good affordable choice. Keep the turntable.
Have JBL K2s...best Amp pairing please? Get a secondhand Boulder amp. Their amps have always been in the top category.
New to Turntables Why spend so much? You don't have many LP's. New remasters don't compare to original pressings. My recommendation is: Pioneer PLX1000 ($699), Hana SL ($750) and Schiit Mani 2 phono stage ($160). I have the Pioneer. It is excellent and comparable t...
Buy or stay with? The woofers should have minimal movement because those CV's roll off the bass around 40hz. If you want to see woofers move get a pair of subs. |
