Halcro update
@larryi : If the Phase Linear sounded so bad why was it a commercial success? I have a nicely restored one in my collection - maybe I should take it out for a test?
Halcro update
I remember the Stereophile 2002 review of the Halcro dm58. It cost about half as much as this new version (€47,900). These Halcro amps certainly look 21st - or 22nd - Century!
Audio Research D75 to Infinity Kappa 9 high pass - which ohm terminals?
Your surge protector is safe to use with the D75. That warning applies to a switch box with a common ground. Which you don't have. BTW I have an ARC D75 with KT120 tubes - good amp!
Best 3A5 / DCC90 / CV808 tubes?
There are plenty of 3A5's available on Ebay. Some are in boxes and presumably new. Prices are low! You could buy and try a bunch!
A GOOD dry record cleaning device
Back in the late 70's my friend Les swore that the Pix Off was the best dry record cleaning device. The Pix Off was a sticky roller on a handle that one would apply to a stationary record's surface. Anybody else ever heard of this?
Best 3A5 / DCC90 / CV808 tubes?
It's a double triode tube. There are plenty available cheap on eBay right now.
B&W 802 S2 & MAC 4100?
They will not be damaged using less power. A 200wpc amp actually sounds only twice as loud as a 20wpc amp on musical peaks.Ten times the power equals twice the perceived loudness.
Best 3A5 / DCC90 / CV808 tubes?
The 3A5 designation means "3 volt heater, 5 element/pentode structure". This is a new one for me! I will have to take a look at my GE tube manual.
Going Tubing
A tube amp with an output impedance of 1 ohm and greater will have the most effect as the tube amp will track the speaker impedance and will not have a flat response (Ohm's Law). It will act like a tone control. So "colored" sound is the result.
Tube Depot's "NOS vacuum tube sale"
Easy to claim NOS  but hard to prove!
Looking for 50-100 watts of Tube Power (give or take) for my JBL 4349s
A pair of nicely restored pair of Dynaco MkIII's with 6550's! I have the rare Paoli version!
To upgrade a separate power supply?
On the other hand my Brown Electronics Lab BEL 1001 died after a few weeks use! Needs new power supply caps. It too was built in the mid-80's.
To upgrade a separate power supply?
My 40 year old Sumo Andromeda amp has been in daily use for six years with no issues! Designed by the great James Bongiorno of GAS Ampzilla/Dynaco 400/SST fame.
Turntable prices. Is my mind going?
On a '"cost-per-gram" comparison nothing beats the $16K Grado Epoch cartridge!
$100-200 linear power supply
@akg_ca +1 A voice of sanity!
