I need help describing the sound of a SET to a friend in English. 1930's table radio technology! I have four of them! Best used with speakers rated for 100db @1 watt. That means something like an Altec VOTT/A7 or the slightly smaller A5.
Naim? By the way the ML2 25 watt monobloc was designed by the late Tom Colangelo back in 1976. It was Class A with 1 Farad of supply capacitance and weighed over 100 lbs. 100 watts at 2 ohms. Mark Levinson just put his name on electronics designed by ot...
Naim? At these high prices you are just paying for audio jewelry! I'd rather have four Levinson ML2 monoblocs bridged for 100wpc Class A at the old list price of $2K a monobloc! Weight of four - a mere 400+ lbs!
Budget integrated amp needed Topping PA5 for $349! Advanced Class D design with 48/83 wpc@8/4 ohms @ .1% distortion! It will clip at over 100 + wpc.
Anyone pairing Cornwall IVs with solid state amplification to good results? I was only offering a low-end suggestion. I would be happy to use a Topping PA5 in place of one of my high-end amps! I can confidentially bet that the PA5 can go 15 rounds with any high-end amp!
Differences the Project RS2 Transport and the (newest) Jay's Audio CD2 Mk 3 $2500 and $4000 for a transport? LOL! The old analog ideas do not apply to digital playback. Any cheap DVD player using digital output will send the same digital bits out to a DAC as any expensive transport. Confirmation bias increases with price!
Which higher end HDMI cable for new OLED TV? Monoprice and the like are all you'll need. Spending more $$$ gets you zero benefit!
Anyone pairing Cornwall IVs with solid state amplification to good results? For $349 the new Topping PA5 integrated amp can’t be beat! Class D 48/83 wpc @8/4 ohms. Will do 100+ watts at clipping. Why spend more?
CD transports Keep and use your Luxman CD player as a transport until the laser gets too weak to read a disc. Then toss it or buy a replacement laser pickup. Me, I'll just keep buying cheap secondhand DVD players.

CD transports Save your money! Any competently-designed player/transport (including DVD) will work just as well as a high-priced transport. Digital is not like analog where more costly turntables sound better. Bits are bits! The old analog ideas do not apply to...
Budget integrated amp needed Yamaha A - S301 is an easy recommendation.
in search of audio nirvana ..... I like to use Pink Floyd’s DSOTM on CD! The Wall would be a good second choice (the late Bob Ezrin did the production work). I have The Wall on British EMI LPs - and USA CDs.
Educate Me Is this ethical? Certainly a gray area! Since amp circuits are not covered by patents they are open to pirating - witness the availability of Chinese-made clone amps. At least Carver just did tweaking to his own production amps! He wasn't copying ...
Educate Me The CJ tube amps were a mono pair of Premier 16's. Bob Carver was able to achieve an excellent null using his 1.5 amp. The Stereophile crew then listened to the modded 1.5 and the CJ 16's and found them to be indistinguishable! A rather remarkable... |
