Acos Lustre GST-1 ...... YAY or NAY. ..... (has Removable Headshell AND VTA on the FLY).
The GST -1 is an excellent tone arm. I bought mine new in 1978 and used it for 20 + years. I paid $230. The 801 was $500 then. Both arms work well with low- compliance mc cartridges. Either arm is better than the SME 3009!
Suggestion between benchmark Ahb2, Bob carver crimson 275 and rogue atlas magnum 2 amos
Will Vincent (autospec) has some really nice ST70’s for sale here! They will outperform and sound way better than the 275!

The Benchmark AHB2 is the stellar performer here! So what it doesn't have glowing bottles to light up a dark room!

@cdennison53 : "It does run relatively cool". The 275 amp is seriously under-biased! Plenty of notch distortion! Sure, the output tubes will last forever but at 10%+ harmonic distortion! Clearly a broken product!

Thumbs down for the Carver 275 amp! It uses 15 watt Edcor output transformers that certainly can't make the claimed 75 watts at reasonable distortion! In fact at 15 watts/1khz it does 1% distortion. At 32hz it is at 2% and rising. Carver's claim t...
Modern "Vintage" Sounding Preamps
What is the OP's definition of "vintage sound"? A Dynaco PAS3, Marantz 7, MacIntosh C22, CJ PV1, ARC SP3A1, Paragon 12 ... pick a flavor! These are all sonically enjoyable - and preferable to most of today's overpriced gear.
SET Shootout China VS The USA
Regarding speakers: a pair or two of Quad 57's plus a pair of Heath W5's is audio nirvana! That's what I use!
SET Shootout China VS The USA
Why bother with the Defy 7? Get a pair of nicely restored Heath W5's. Peerless iron. Add a quad set of Gold Lion KT66's and four vintage 12AU7's for the input/driver stages. 28 PP watts per mono amp. Sonically way better than any Chinese amp! I ha...
flabbergasted with reviews on speakers
Sensitivity ratings for speakers is a commonly used spec. It is useful for matching an amp to a particular speaker. No chicanery here! The lower the sensitivity the more peak power needed.
How long do you or should you keep your gear.
Ariston RD11S in use since 1977! Original belt still good - it gets an occasionall wipe down with Armor All. Presently has a Grace 707 arm/Denon 103 cartridge mounted.

I am thinking that this would be an easy build. Wonder if there would be enough interest in it for some sales? The 6BG6's are still available NOS. They take the plate lead out by a top cap. About 6 wpc of tetrode power! Again, best with higher sen...
SET Shootout China VS The USA
2. The 6BG6 is another custom build from eBay. It uses a single 12AT7 as input to two 6BG6 tetrodes, along with a 5U4 rectifier. About 6 wpc, so a bit more useful than the 45 and 2A3 amps. Now I wish I had kept the vintage Heresy's! I think I paid...
SET Shootout China VS The USA
I have three single end tube amps. A 2A3, a 45 and a 6BG6. The 2A3 is a Sanei 260A made-in-Japan. It uses all Tango iron, including a Tango choke! Plus a front panel volume pot and a headphone jack! It was an eBay auction win for me one December...
Classic rocker IRA?
Dusty Hill passed away not too long ago! Only Billy Gibbons and Frank Beard left of the trio!
