SVS PB16 Ultra vs JL Fathom 113 vs ???
I would pass on JL. As an owner I have had a lot of quality issues. Two subs have both been returned twice for repairs and still have new issues…
Which Tweeter preferred- dome natural material, Beryllium/Metal or Planar Ribbon? Why?
I think dispersion plays a bigger part. A wave guide or wide baffle vs narrow baffle changes things a lot. Motor and back waves matter a lot too.    For a direct answer I find silk domes are kind of dull in general (some exception in there) but i...
Underpowered?
Probably has more to do with the impedance than anything.    I use a power conditioner. The only thing it helps is my JL subs… because they are junk and super noisy with what appears to be zero AC filtering. Everything else it did not help or mad...
How do I set the crossover for 2 channel listening on my HT system?
No matter how large my speakers are (cruelty my mains have two 8” drivers) I always crossover (highpass) at 60hz or more. I have found subs to be much better than anything short of super speakers below 60hz. 70-80hz will depend on the speakers/roo...
Underpowered?
Glad you got it sorted but I would have never guess it was power. I have only used the Big Macs though and my MC462 seems to plow through anything hooked up to it. Maybe the lower powered Mac can’t handle the impedance curve.
Underpowered?
I would not trust Andrew Robinson’s opinion. He seems to lack highend experience or be a paid shill, I am undecided. No hard feelings toward the guy but you will get better advice here.
Underpowered?
I would guess buying a new amp will not work, you are chasing a ghost. The speakers have no low bass, look at the stereophile measurements below. I owned the 703S awhile back and ran it off a vintage (1976) 40 watt Marantz and it was fine. I would...
Shoot out Wilson vs. Focal
A size down on both brands but you could gleam some insight still.
Placement of Single Subwoofer Affecting Sound of Main Speakers
I have done both number 2 and 3 while one of my subs was getting fixed. Number 3 worked pretty well. I was using a highpass crossover at the time.
Dynaudio Evoke 50 vs Revel f226Be
I can’t help much with the Dynaudio but I think the contour line is more of a direct competitor to the Revel Performa be. The standard performa would be compatible to the evoke. You probably get better drivers with the contour than evoke. The Rev...
Mounting Speakers On A Furniture Dolly For Mobility
I use furniture movers (plastic disc for carpet, felt for wood) all the time. They work well. Never head any negative effect. I don’t leave them there long term.
KEF Reference 1s or Wilson Sophias
Sounds well done.
KEF Reference 1s or Wilson Sophias
I think it will come down to your sub integration. Do you a crossover as in a highpass? If not I would start there.    Anyway I have demoed a number of kefs and the Wilson’s. They sound very different. My comments are based on the Sophia 3 and th...
Upgrade B&W CM4 to what?
As a former owner of the B&W 703s I can tell you respectfully the B&W CM4 is a bad speaker. I went from the 703s to Thiel 2.4 (no longer made several pairs on here used) and the Thiels made the B&Ws sound broken. I paid about the same ...
Why I'm not adding a sub to my 2-way monitors for music
Adding subs is always an improvement if crossed over right. But each person has to decide if the cost, space and complexity is worth it to them.
