My Audio Research experience Jetter - Having owned some ST70's I agree they are simple and reliable. Sonically, however, I can assure you they are not ARC. There is no comparison.
My Audio Research experience I have never had any piece of audio equipment repaired where I thought it was inexpensive. Whether it was from the manufacturer or locally at a dealer (back when they existed). And when I did have something repaired at a local shop and found it w...
My Audio Research experience Cleeds - I very much agree with you. I have not dealt with ARC service since Mr. Johnson has been gone, but I suspect they can still service anything they ever made (if you pay enough). Also I thought the use of printed circuit boards was fairly c...
Do caps deteriorate with time even if an amp is not being used? I believe it is very dependent on what the amp is and the quality of components that were used. If it is mass-market junk then 10 years may be a big deal. If it is high quality equipment with good components, then 10 years should be nothing.
LaScalla "horn" sound compared to "maggie" sound I have owned MG 1.6 (powered by Bryston 3B) and LaScalla (powered by Audio Research VSi55). I liked both speakers, but as someone mentioned, they are very different animals. I don't think you will be satisfied with the large Bryston powering the L...
McIntosh MAC 1900/PSB 5T burning smell Eli - anything greater than Millivolts is too much, but you shouldn't even have to go that far because if there is any smell of heat or burning there is something wrong with the receiver. When these receivers are in proper working order they don't...
McIntosh MAC 1900/PSB 5T burning smell I would strongly suggest disconnecting the speakers, turning the receiver on, and measuring the DC voltage on the speaker terminals to see if it is producing any DC voltage. I know this from personal experience. Since the 1900 receiver is Direct C...
Conrad Johnson SS amps I have a Sonograph SA-250 (I see there is one for sale on this site right now) and although I have not used it in awhile due to equipment swapping, in my opinion it is a very fine sounding amp. I believe this is a Mosfet amp.
Do equipment stands have an impact on electronics? I am certainly no expert on the subject, but I would believe tube gear benefits from isolation because tubes can become microphonic (some tubes more than others). Also analog and rotating equipment such as turntables and cd players benefit from is...
Atmasphere amps trustable? Thank you Atmasphere - very well stated.
Atmasphere amps trustable? This thread is interesting and informative. I have owned Solid State and Tubes amps from many manufacturers over the years, but I have never owned Atmasphere amps (or any other OTL) for that matter. I would like to try them some day. As for the ge...
Audio Research D79C Amp I have a D-79 (first all-tube version with no letter designation) supposedly tweaked by Bill Johnson himself for an Audio show at the time. It was my Father's amp, and he truly loved ARC gear, and owned it since the company started producing equip...
Do ClassDAudio Amps Have Proper Decay Of Notes? I have one of the small class D amps based on the TPA3116D2 board and I bought it as an experiment. This is a very inexpensive amp so I hardly expect it to be state-of-the-art like some of the larger more expensive class D amps out there. It is my...
ARC VS60 Amp question Sorry I had a typo in the last sentence of my response. I meant to say that I suspect the VS60 is a fine amp that would sound good with monitors or floorstanders.
ARC VS60 Amp question I agree with the other posters and my guess is they mean the amp is not limited to powering small monitors, and it is capable of also powering large full-range speakers as well. I had a VT60 (older model from the 1990's and should have never sold ... |
