Are the new Ohm Walsh speakers Audiophile quality? I can't speak for the latest Ohm speakers, but if they are anything like the older ones, I would not hesitate to buy them. Last year I bought a pair of Ohm Walsh 2 locally for $250 from a gentlemen that bought them new in the 1980's. I never owned...
Audio Research D240 mkll vs Adcom GFA-555 Having owned multiple models of ARC solid state and Adcom amps through the years, I am certain the ARC would sound superior to the Adcom. I would advise calling ARC, however, and verifying if the D240 is still serviceable (if it ever broke down)....
How much are AR AR3's worth these days? 1graber2 - If you would have just asked how much people thought they were worth, you may have received some straight-forward answers. But you elaborated by saying:1) You bought them at an Estate Sale - curious how much you paid $100 or $200 just g...
How much are AR AR3's worth these days? This is why I quit going to estate sales. They are full of bottom-feeders looking to get stuff for nothing and sell it for top $$$. They can't be satisfied with making 2X or 3X what they paid. They have to be greedy.
Atma-sphere Updates Any posts I have seen from Atmasphere appear to be productive and unbiased (no pun intended). I have only seen constructive criticism and comments from him.
Martin Logans I have owned both the Aerius-i and Abby and they are very different speakers. The Aerius-i required a lot of power and had a difficult impedance curve. I drove them with a Bryston 3B or Audio Research VT60. The VT60 sounded much better in my opini...
Rega RS5/small room I have the RS3 in a similar sized room and I think they sound very good. I believe the RS5 has a slightly larger woofer, but I don't think it would overpower the room. They are also easy to place and don't seem sensitive to room placement.
What a sad world we now live in....... uberwaltz - I agree with you. Although I am not a fan of WalMart it is sad to see that nearly everywhere they have stopped selling CD's. The only good news is, that because the general public doesn't want them any more, you can buy used (most like...
Audio Nirvana Drivers As an update to my previous post I received a very friendly message from "Common Sense" that shed some light on the situation. As I think back, we may have both just been having a bad day. Based on the recent correspondence, I would retract what I...
Audio Nirvana Drivers The 10" full-range drivers I bought years ago were OK but had limited high frequency range (rolled-off on the highs). Regardless of that, I really enjoyed them for the price, but I will say the "Common Sense" place that sells them is less than fri...
Electrostatic pros and cons. The downfall of ESL's for me is the fact they are delicate and the repair cost is very high if something goes wrong. I had a pair of Martin-Logan years ago and they were excellent sounding speakers. When one speaker started playing at a lower volu...
Which vintage Craig's list speaker pair would you buy and why? ebm - Actually I have had better luck on Craigslist than on this site. Although there are some people on Craigslist that are dishonest and some stuff is junk, that is the case anywhere and you can filter that out quickly by talking to the person. ...
Vintage Tube Amplifiers - Any good? I love the old tube console stereos. I have repaired some of them and left them as-is, and some of them were too bad so I removed the amps and junked the console. One comment I would have based on my experience with the Zenith, Magnavox etc. is th...
Genesis 210 Speakers I re-foamed some of the Genesis speakers years ago, along with Large Advents, etc. In my opinion they were good back in the time they were made, but bass was lacking or boomy and resolution would not compete with modern speakers. They are pleasant...
Audio Research SP-5 I agree with roberjerman because I have an SP5 that I have owned for at least 25 years but not listened to in a long time. The other issue with this vintage of solid state preamps (SP4 & SP5) is they use the proprietary Analog Modules which AR... |
