Audio Research REF 6 to REF 6SE upgrade.
Well I would think resale value means a lot.  Most of the time less money is lost on the smaller manufacturers equipment because it's a less expensive to begin with.  I really don't care about brand recognition, only sound quality and reliabili...
Audio Research REF 6 to REF 6SE upgrade.
Besides pride of ownership and resale value, I've found that the small manufacturers of tube equipment have better sound for way less money than the well known brands.
ARC REF 6 upgraded by ARC.
It's a tube preamp, not that complicated to work on, you probably would get more for your money with a smaller tech like bigkidz.
Speakers sounding dull? MUST READ! The truth about speaker design!
How do you even know that the sound of a speaker is actually accurate, I don't think any speaker made is truly accurate, especially when you add a room into the equation.
Rogue Audio. Reliability issues? Anyone?
@wolf_garcia  I've had the same experience as you, the tube equipment is more reliable than the solid state equipment I've owned.
Is it possible for a high end manufacturer to overprice their goods?
I don't see what the big deal is, the wealthy can afford more expensive cars, houses , boats, food, and many other things. Obviously most of these super expensive pieces of audio gear are not overpriced, look at Dan D'Agostino audio, their relentl...
Modifying Crossovers
@falmgren you really think they used the best crossover parts that the could have for $11k? Did they use all silver wire in them?  They may also use lower quality crossover parts because of availability.
We should reject hard-to-drive speakers more often
@phusis  I couldn't agree with you more about overly damped bass.
Modifying Crossovers
You can make a high end speaker sound better with better capacitors and resistors, but you have to experiment with different brand caps and resistors, before you figure out what brand will sound better than the ones the speakers came with.

@mrdecibel  there are a few tube amps that can power the apogee scintilla and full range, most of them have 1ohm taps. There is a guy that used to post on the apogee forum that is powering his apogee full range with Tube Research Labs amps, four m...
The MQA debate is finally over
@kota1 how do you know that MQA uses the best master? Neil Young didn't seem to think so.
Big Krells Have Vanished From The Used Market
Which service tech is it? A few of them charge more than krell does.
Axpona 2023
I doubt that, I've heard plenty of all in one actives at AXPONA as a matter of fact, was never impressed. Not saying active is bad, just the all in one, I've heard a couple active systems that the owner picked his own amps and that was definitely ...
Speakers and amplifiers show audiophiles are confused.
@donavabdear I have been to AXPONA a few times, and I heard some expensive Focal speakers that sounded terrible the first time and very good the second time I heard them, so there are a number of factors that can cause this, not just the room or t...

Why do some tube amps have the power to drive apogee scintilla and full range speakers, the specs certainly don't tell you this would work.
