Good used surround processors?? If you thnk the debates get heated around here, visit a few HT discussion boards and look for the DD vs DTS threads. With that much "passion" on both sides, there's probably very little inherent differences and they pale in comparison to the engin...
Hate to ask...... Ken,I think Kelly was referring to the TV between the mains, not the center.Sean,Don't you think the mains can be too far apart? I would find it very unnatural to have sounds on the left side of the room (in the program) apparently coming from the...
Hate to ask...... Sorry to disappoint you Tim, but I'm another HT fan. I had an integrated system, but separated it to try to improve the 2-ch side. I do seem to get much more pleasure from music than movies, but I wouldn't give up the theater. I'll be moving in a ...
Which 5 ch Amp for Home Theater? Which NHT's? Will make a big difference if it's Super Ones or 3.3s.
Best Value Speakers?? Since you don't care about looks and the quality of the cabinet (no offense to your woodworking skills, which may be considerable for all I know), I'd think a very good DIY kit would be the best value. There are a number out there.
need help with purchase Obviously, a lot of questions could be raised. The need for component video switching and a phono stage are biggies. Your choices (especially on the used market) open up considerably with the "right" answers. You may want to consider the Sherwood ...
Best female vocals on CD Vinylsaur: Waycool, another Annie Haslam fan! I recently picked up Live at Carnegie Hall in perfect condition. I saw her many years ago ... she was nursing a very sore throat, and still sounded amazing.
What is the scoop on passive biamping? You'll need one of your amps to have adjustable gain, as it is highly unlikely they will match.
Which came first, the chicken or the egg Blob7,It is possible to integrate very good 2-ch performance into an HT environment. It will take some care in setup and room treatment, and in component selection, but it can be done. Of course, multi-use necessitates some degree of compromise fo...
Preamp advice, all comments welcome A 2-box solution at $500 will be nearly impossible. A decent standalone phono stage, even used, will be a few hundred. You need to find a built-in phono stage. Used CJ, AI, ARC, Anthem, and others should fill the bill.
World Music: Great Suggestions, please? Kotoja on the Putamayo label. Liner notes say "If this music doesn't make you feel good, you must be dead." ... I think they're right.
I am nuts to use these speakers? I agree with Tubegroover et al. I recently stopped thinking about equipment and went on a media/listening binge, and found it much more satisfying. I also agree that if you simply MUST hear what you are missing (or not missing) try to audition a p...
Best speaker under $500 OK, more blind reponses/suggestions which could be available used in your range should include (generally in my order of preference): Vandersteen 2's in some variant, ProAc Tablette in some variant, NHT 2.5i, PSB Stratus Bronze, NHT S1/S2, etc. I ...
Hardwood floors vs Carpet I agree with Subaruguru ... when we shifted from carpet to hardwoods, I was not happy with the increased brightness, and I thought the imaging suffered also. But, I don't have it set up exactly as before, so I thought maybe some of it was my imagi...
Best speaker under $500 They say you can be a project manager by mastering two phrases - "It depends" and "We can't tell with the information presently available". Depends on what you have to drive them - any recommended pair, not just Jim's Apogees. Are you willing to b... |
