Atypical Q: Want Advice on Non-Prog DVD w/grt Vid
My understanding is that the Panny RP56&91 are GREAT PS but not very good interlaced. The Pioneer DV05/09 and Sony 7000/7700 used are good ideas. I saw a good article somewhere about PS and interlaced output of various players ... I'll see if ...

Steve,ANY pre-amp will work ... the HT pass-thru or processor input just makes it more convenient (you don't have to return the preamp volume setting to the "reference/calibrated" setting). If music is 90% of the use, this may not be a big deal fo...
Well, another pre-amp & HT integration question...
I can't fathom the benefit of running out of the AVP to yet another preamp. You don't need any more gain, nor input switching. I'd think you'd either do something in lieu of the AVP or call it a day.

Any interest in SACD? Might get a used 777 in your range, or think about a new multi-channel player since you have an integrated system. I don't think you'll improve the 760 much for 1-1.5k for a pre/pro, but could with a separate 2-ch pre integra...
help with HT setup?
If you can still use the amp section of the Adcom without the processing, try to stretch your budget a bit and go for the new Outlaw 950 pre/pro. It looks to be a steal at $900. I'd keep/integrate the C-J, at least until you can compare it to the ...
Words From the Wise
Some great stuff here! Brings both laughter and tears (and in the case of the stupid stuff, as Curly would say ... "heyyy ... i resemble that remark!")Incrementalism is the enemy ... buy something you LOVE. You'll never be sorry buying quality ove...
Progressive Scan? Need Advice
Read the thread here titled: "what dvd player with progressive scan" and follow the link to the Secrets shootout.
Bridge or bi-amp? Which should I do?
I may be dense (may?) but, how are you intending to do this bi-amping? Do the high-level outputs on the C370 stay active when using the pre-outs? Or does it have main-ins, and you are going to use a Y-splitter off the pre-outs? And if either is tr...
Found a gold mine
Tim,Speaking as one of those "older folks" (as well as parent) you'd be hard-pressed to get me to give up that collection. However, the divide and conquer approach (which seems to be genetically handed down to all kids) might work - try working on...
Budget DAC
You also might consider getting the Pioneer modified by Stan Warren or Dan Wright - whether you use it as a stand-alone or a transport. Everyone seems to speak highly of both.
TIVO and Ultimate TV. Any recommendations?
I got the Philips DSSreceiver/TiVo combination unit a couple months ago, and it truly changes the way you watch TV. I wish I'd done it much sooner. I don't have experience with Ultimate or Replay, but I am happy with the features and functionality...
Audiophile novice needs your expert opinion
I would NOT lift the ground from your electrical components. It is dangerous, not worth the risk, and there are other ways around it. I'm sure a search on ground loop will produce many threads. There is also an article posted on the SMR theater fo...
A Simple Question: DVD & Pre-Pro
You only need one decoder. Most people pass the digital signal to the prepro. The one in the receiver/prepro typically has more features, flexibility with bass management, and perhaps higher quality.
Pre amp to sub hookup, or speaker level?
Ptm,The direct answer is don't do either. You want to daisy-chain the sub between your speakers and amp or between the pre and amp. That way you use the sub's crossover and filters to strip the (low) frequencies you want it to produce and pass the...
foiled again...
Gunbunny,You may have lost sight of the forest for the trees. You mention your TV sitting out about 2 feet - if that is a hulking RPTV monolith, that sitting in between the speakers is doing a lot more damage to your soundstage than whether you ca...
