what is jitter supposed to sound like?
Opps, I confused 'jitter' with 'dither'! Definitely not the same and of course my comments on 'dither' don't apply here for 'jitter'. My bad! Bob P.
what is jitter supposed to sound like?
Sounds loke something that you have never heard before! If you could hear it, it would sound like a low level hiss.More important, how would the recording sound without dither? How can one know, since dither is always used as standard.Bob P.
Energy damping or energy transfer?
Shadorne, in fact the vibration servo device could be another small speaker installed in the stand or support device! Brillant idea!Bob P.
Accurate vs Musical
Baroque, how do you know that the speakers reproduced the recording perfectly? And if they hadn't reproduced them perfectly, would you have preferred the recording? I am confused!
What happened to the loudness control?
That is what a loudness compensation control is, an equalizer, but variable with the volume. One hopes that it complementary to the frequency response variability of the ear according to volume. I use the variable loudness compensation control on ...
Soldering cable ends for AC terminations
mapleleafs3, and where do those impurities go? And aren't they 'flushed out' by the current after some time?At any rate, I don't see where it makes a difference if the solder is just at the protuding end of the connection where there is no current...
Accurate vs Musical
Speakers should reproduce accurately the music contained on the recording. Speakers should not be another musical instrument imposed on top of the recorded music. Some prefer one version of speaker to the other. You chose which fits your vision and...
Spikes versus Rubber on wood floor?
Aball, how do we know what our ears are capable of measuring if we can't measure their capability with instruments. What instruments are we using to measure the fact that we can't hear sounds at 40kHz?If there is any effect from speakers systems '...
Music volume? What about your sound level?
My average 'background' level is lower than yours at 70-75db, but listening level is about the same, around 82-86db.Even more interesting, however, is the power consumption or output from your amp at those listening levels.Probably not more than 1...
What to get freinds into on the cheap?
Why don't you ask your friends what their musical goals are and go from there? Since you aren't going to impress them with any of the electronics that you might think of and they won't hear the difference anyway, start with the speakers that will ...
What makes a High Efficiency Speaker
Not really, Etby. If the speaker only needs 1 watt to output 94db, the you are 'wasting' 0.9 watts per hour! The parasitic losses on your microwave are about 5w/h.And at 84db, the loss is 0.09w/h. Don't sweat it!
Questions about SACD vs.analog for classical music
Eldartford, thanks for clearing that up! Salut, Bob P.
Questions about SACD vs.analog for classical music
Eldartford, my decoder is used only to produce two rear channels signals by taking the pre-amp output (parallelled with the output to the front speaker amplifier), decoding it and using only the rear speaker outputs to the rear speaker amp. The PL...
Questions about SACD vs.analog for classical music
Eldartford, I too have found that the 'dematrixing' of CDs for rear ambiance sound is not nearly as satisfactory as LPs. I attribute this to the fact that the playback system for vinyl (stylus in grove) actually creates phase information with the ...
What are we listening for during break in?
Only problem with Kimbers 'explanation' and river water analogy is that electrical current in wire DOES NOT flow in only one direction as a water current. So whatever 'change' brought to the wire due to one way current flow will be 'reversed' when...
