Would a tube amp generally do better on power conditioner than a SS amp? My guess is that my amp pulls a lot of current but it's only a guess, I don't want to call VAC just to ask this.
Would a tube amp generally do better on power conditioner than a SS amp? My VAC Avatar SE tube integrated 60 watt/ch amp seriously benefits from PS Audio regenerator in every performance aspect. It makes the regenerator work hard, though, the regenerator gets much warmer than with previous solid state equipment, someti...
New buy, no return policy I don't audition the equipment that I have no intention of buying. I only buy used and I buy very rarely. $50k speakers should sound great given the right source, electronics and cables. mulveling, you wouldn't exchange your Tannoys for them, wou...
New buy, no return policy Are those speakers worth $48k, anyway ?
polishing pins of NOS tubes Yeah, great technique to clean those nasty tube sockets. I clean connectors with British Kontak, it's a military grade brew. I have never tried cleaning tube pins yet, though.
New buy, no return policy Yes, I understand the dealer, I understand the buyer as well. And he is a small dealer, he can't afford it really. I simply would not think that if I were buying $48k speakers I would be entitled to free or almost free home audition, set up, huge ...
New buy, no return policy Yeah, that would be ideal, your own room and electronics. But if the dealer’s room is very similar it might be alright. Besides, you might move to another room next year. Are you going to replace speakers each time you move your system? My curr...
New buy, no return policy " comparable electronics " does not have much meaning, even less when very expensive equipment is involved. $50k speakers should sound almost spectacular or why buy them ? Anyway, hopefully that used pair will perform just fine for a long time.
New buy, no return policy I dissent. You should’ve brought your own source, electronics and cables to the dealer’s and listened. Had the dealer refused, yeah, walk away and never buy from him, regardless of price. If you can pay $48k for new speakers with full warranty why...
Koetsu cartridges. They must be something special. The very idea of matching cartridge and speakers is something that I have always thought of as being correct. And do fine tuning with tubes, starting with phono stage, of course.
How to choose speakers that won't overpower your room? Listening at low volume is unlikely to overpower your room, regardless of speakers. big room - big speakers small room - big speakers.
how can I insure a shipment for more than $10,000 I think, USPS Registered Mail could be insured for up to $25k, unless they changed it. But I have no idea about either the cost or weight limits or etc. Registered Mail is also very slow, but very reliable.
12au7 tube? These were prices from audiotubes.com, a very reliable source of tubes. In fact, RCAs are $100 for a matched pair.
Have you reached your end point with this addictive hobby? It helps to have little money for this. Works as a sort of safeguard. Doesn't address the core of things, though. Personally, on average I spend about $1500 a year on equipment, including tubes. And I have maintained this figure for years. I have...
